Why you should be excited about the adult animated rom-com, ‘Mating Season’

Netflix may have pulled the curtains on Big Mouth following its successful eight-season run, but the creators are far from done with their animated theatrics. In fact, the twisted minds behind the Emmy-nominated series are returning with an equally chaotic show, Mating Season, in May.

In the wake of National Horny Day, which, ironically, happens to be a thing, Netflix rolled out the highly anticipated trailer for Mating Season, offering a preview of what the animals have been up to.

Co-created by Mark Levin, Jennifer Flackett, Andrew Goldberg, and Nick Kroll, the upcoming adult animated comedy series is also executive-produced by them for Brutus Pink. Additionally, Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina executive produce for Titmouse.

So, in case you’re lurking on Netflix, hoping to satisfy your post-Big Mouth comedy cravings with a show that’s equal parts deserving, here’s a rundown of everything you should know about Mating Season.

What is the plot?

Big Mouth highlighted the story of a group of adolescents and their awkward, repulsive Hormone Monsters. On the other hand, Mating Season is an adult animated romantic comedy set in the animal world. The forthcoming series stars bears, raccoons, deer, foxes, and a crew of several other horny forest inhabitants, exploring love, sex, relationships, and the universal need to find a partner and sustain the species.

Big Mouth broke new ground in the world of adult animation with heart, humour, and total chaos – they took the awkwardness and adolescence and turned it into something universal and deeply human,” said John Derderian, Vice President, Animation Series, Netflix. “Now, with Mating Season, they’ll bring that same bold and hilarious creativity into the animal kingdom.”

“After eight incredible seasons telling stories about growing up, we’re excited to tell stories about actual grown-ups,” the Brutus Pink crew chimed in. “Who happens to be animals. Who are also cartoons.”

Who is in the cast?

The voice cast of Mating Season, Netflix’s forthcoming adult animated romantic comedy series, features Nick Kroll as a raccoon called Ray, June Diane Raphael as a deer named Fawn, Zach Woods as a bear called Josh, and Sabrina Jalees as a fox named Penelope.
