Why you should be excited about Netflix’s live-action ‘Assassin’s Creed’
Assassin’s Creed, deemed as one of the most popular franchises in video game history, is ready for its live-action leap on Netflix. All you need to do is be here for it.
Netflix officially greenlit and announced the live-action adaptation of Assassin’s Creed in July 2025, the blockbuster franchise, which was originally launched in 2007 by the French video publisher Ubisoft.
While Netflix has roped in unmatched talent to breathe new life into the franchise, now that it is almost five years in the making, the adaptation marks the first series to be developed under Netflix’s deal with Ubisoft for Assassin’s Creed.
“When we first announced our partnership with Ubisoft in 2020, we set out with an ambitious goal to bring the rich, expansive world of Assassin’s Creed to life in bold new ways,” said Peter Friedlander, Netflix VP of Scripted Series. And now that it’s finally about to materialise, here’s an overview of what to expect from the live-action version of the iconic video game series.
What is the plot?
Assassin’s Creed is undoubtedly one of the best-selling series in video game history, having sold more than 230million units. While the video game series is universally acclaimed due to its gold standard of storytelling, the Netflix version will definitely capitalise on that. Although the exact details of the live-action adaptation remain under wraps, according to the official synopsis, the upcoming series will be a “high-octane thriller.”
The series focuses on the secret war between two murky factions – one on a mission to predetermine the fate of mankind via control, exploitation and manipulation; the other on a quest to do whatever it takes to preserve freedom and free will. “The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”
Who is in the cast and crew?
Netflix initially cast Lola Petticrew, Toby Wallace, Tanzyn Crawford, Laura Marcus, and Zachary Hart as series regulars in Assassin’s Creed. Then, it roped in Noomi Rapace, Ramzy Bedia, Sean Harris, and Corrado Invernizzi in recurring roles. But Netflix has yet to reveal the character details. So, keep checking for additional updates.
Emmy nominees Roberto Patino and David Wiener serve as co-creators, co-showrunners, and executive producers. Besides them, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, Genevieve Jones for Ubisoft Film & Television, and Matt O’ Toole are also executive producers.
