What you need to know about Claire Danes’ romance series, ‘Lovesick’
Netflix is fanning the flames of a new romance series, Lovesick, starring Claire Danes, which promises to walk the thin line between life and death and the stories that are shaped in between.
The straight-to-series Netflix drama stars Danes as Annika, a famous breast cancer surgeon whose world turns upside down when she is diagnosed with cancer herself.
The Affair co-creator and showrunner, Sarah Treem, serves as the creator, writer, and executive producer of Lovesick, which tells the story of two people whose lives unexpectedly collide. “I’m thrilled to get to tell this story with the genius Claire Danes,” she says to Tudum. “We’ve been looking for something to do together for a very long time, and this character, Annika, is perhaps a mix of both of our wildest dreams.”
So, if you’re curious to see what this partnership results in, here’s a rundown of everything you should know about Lovesick.
What is the plot?
Lovesick is based on the Keshet original series by Rona Tamir, Tal Granit, and Sharon Maymon for Keshet 12. The upcoming romance show follows renowned breast cancer surgeon Annika, who has just received her own cancer diagnosis. While her world is completely changed with the revelation, she soon runs into a new patient, Nate, a promising politician.
The Netflix series primarily captures their entwined lives, exploring themes of love, sex, illness, death, family, children, health, medicine and the meaning of life as Annika battles survival.
“To get to tell a story about all the things keeping me up at night anyway – life, death, children, love, middle age, courage, science, and faith – is an extraordinary opportunity I don’t take lightly in these turbulent times,” Treem explains.
Who is in the cast?
As of now, Claire Danes is the only confirmed cast member of Lovesick, who’s clearly ready for her Netflix comeback following the hit The Beast in Me. She executive produces the show alongside Keshet Studios’ Avi Nir, Keren Shahar, and Peter Traugott.
