The cinematic universe of Rebel Moon, crafted by Zack Snyder, will continue to expand on its epic space opera in 2024.
Despite a rocky start with an unfavourable critical reception, the first instalment, Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire, stormed its way to the number one spot on Netflix’s global top ten films list. Of course, the numbers reflect how many have tuned in to watch the film, contrary to how many have actually enjoyed it.
However, the fact that the film has soared past all competition to the top ten spot in as many as 93 countries on Netflix is quite telling of its popularity.
As we wait to gauge the film’s true success, the Rebel Moon team has already dropped the trailer for part two. As anticipation grows for the next chapter, Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver, let us take a look at what we can expect in the second instalment.
What is Rebel Moon — Part Two about?
Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver will pick up where its predecessor left off in a galaxy teetering on the brink of destruction. A farming colony on the moon, Veldt faces a relentless threat from the tyrannical Motherworld and its military force, the Imperium. The sequel promises to delve deeper into the story, evolving from a world-building phase to a full-fledged war movie.
Snyder shared in a recent interview with EW that the stakes have risen significantly. “Part Two is a war movie,” Snyder said. “We know that Noble’s alive, and Belisarius has given him the task of finding his daughter and bringing her back to him at all costs. So the stakes have risen for the village from ‘hey, we want some of your grain’ to now ‘you’re harbouring the most wanted fugitive in the history of the galaxy.'”
“It was fun to plan the battle and try to figure out how Kora and the village could stand a chance against a world-destroying spacecraft,” Snyder added.
Who is in Rebel Moon — Part Two?
The ensemble cast of Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver is led by Sofia Boutella, reprising her role as Kora, a former Imperium soldier turned warrior for the oppressed. Djimon Hounsou returns as Titus, a former Imperium general, and Ed Skrein as Atticus Noble, an admiral and right-hand man. The cast also includes Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, and the distinguished Anthony Hopkins, who lent his voice to the character of Jimmy, the last of a race of mechanical knights.
When will Rebel Moon — Part Two be released?
Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver is set to hit screens on April 19th, 2024.
