What should we expect from ‘The Witcher’ season 4?
Netflix has sent an invite to the Continent for The Witcher fans. It’s time to pack your swords and revise your sorcery skills as the fourth season of the hit Netflix series is now closer than ever.
While viewers were busy witnessing the historic showdown between the boxing heavyweights Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford, Netflix pulled a wild card with the first footage of the new White Wolf, Liam Hemsworth.
With that, the streaming giant also peeled back the curtain on a new monster awaiting The Witcher season four, alongside the long-awaited release date. The fourth season is slated to hit the Netflix shelves on October 30th. As for those wondering what to expect from this forthcoming chapter, the extended first look footage and teaser have more answers than you’d expect.
Running for a minute and 24 seconds, the clip shows Hemsworth’s Geralt of Rivia confronting a haunting spirit with a skull-like face, brooding with cold-blooded vengeance. Despite being a force to be reckoned with in the world of sorcerers, his magnificent swordsmanship and his sword have nothing on his new foe, who keeps dragging the White Wolf to its gory cage.
Geralt ultimately resorts to his Witcher Signs, using Aard first and then Yrden to immobilise the monster, reaching out to his chest to crush the illuminating rock-hard core. And the spirit precipitates into a dark dust, making way for a fleeting tease for The Witcher’s whereabouts.
In a statement, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich revealed what awaits the fourth and the fifth and final instalment of The Witcher, to Tudum, saying, “One of the things we always say is that it wouldn’t be The Witcher if everything ended happily. This is the beginning of a two-season journey for our family to finally reunite and be together – hopefully forever.”
Hissrich is super excited to bring the final two instalments to fans who have stuck with the show through thick and thin. She hopes that people show up for The Witcher’s fourth season as much as they have in the past. Although she acknowledged that things would be different and the audience should make room for them, she promised the “core” the fans had fallen in love with would remain as it is.
“We also have this amazing opportunity, halfway through a series, to relaunch it – to say, ‘Things are different, we’re coming out of the gate with a bang, and it’s bigger and better than ever,” Hissrich continued. The first-look photos show Hemsworth taking the mantle of Geralt, so don’t expect Henry Cavill, obviously. They also show Freya Allan’s Ciri in a stunning new hairdo and Laurence Fishburne joining as Regis. While we know what The Witcher has meant to the audience for these many seasons, Netflix sure hopes fans will consider the changes and welcome what’s new with open arms.
