‘Wednesday’ surpasses ‘Stranger Things’ record on Netflix

When Wednesday opted for a two-part release for its second season, viewers couldn’t hold back their concerns. And when the second part’s viewership dipped alarmingly compared to the first in the first five days, the tension shot up. However, shattering all those negative speculations, the second instalment just toppled the third season of Stranger Things on Netflix’s all-time chart.

The second season of Wednesday has officially been welcomed on Netflix’s most popular English-language TV titles of all time during the second week of availability. The first instalment of the hit Netflix series remains at the top of the list.

Meanwhile, the second season has amassed 94.5million views to date, paving the path for its entry on Netflix’s all-time list, removing the third season of Stranger Things to become the new number ten title. The streaming giant decides its all-time titles by compiling the total views garnered by each title 91 days after premiere.

In cases of multi-part releases, such as the second season of Wednesday, Netflix counts 91 days after the release of the final episode, which leaves the black comedy series until early December to continue to go up on its all-time chart. That said, despite the milestone, the Jenna Ortega-led series was not the most-watched show in the week dated September 8th to September 14th.

That honour went to Canelo Álvarez vs Terence Crawford, which garnered 17.7million views during the livestream. Wednesday season two struck down in the second place with 15million views. However, the frenzy surrounding Netflix’s deadpan darling has not been limited to the recent instalment.

Viewers have been showing rekindled interest, curiosity, and a lot of love for the debut season of Wednesday, released in 2022. It’s currently ranked sixth on this week’s most popular English-language TV shows chart with 3.6million views.

While it remains to be seen what more surprises await the tenure of Wednesday’s second season, given that it has already made its mark on Netflix’s all-time chart, all one can hope is that it’s only onwards and upwards from here on.
