‘Wednesday’ creator Alfred Gough weighs in on the shocking mid-season finale

Things are going downhill for Wednesday Addams in Nevermore. The first part of the highly anticipated second season of Wednesday ended in immeasurable chaos.

The mystery around Wednesday’s black tears reached a fever pitch in the first part. But before fans could probe further, Tyler was on the loose and Wednesday was comatose.

While her psychic glitches were already concerning enough, the mysteries surrounding the secret program LOIS raised even more eyebrows. Speaking of the subject matter, they planned to address this season, Wednesday co-creator Alfred Gough told Entertainment Weekly, “We didn’t want to repeat ourselves as second seasons are tricky things with a lot of shows, and we wanted to change up the mystery storytelling.”

The idea behind creating episode four was to let hell break loose, leaving fans at a point of no return. But regardless of the shock impact, the mid-season finale didn’t really resolve every loose end. “One aspect of the mystery is solved,” Gough explains, pointing at Tyler’s freedom and his subsequent attack on Marilyn Thornhill.

With Tyler fully Hyding out and Thornhill done for good (probably), it’s clear that the beast has reawakened, in a force far more fatalistic than before. “It’s always good when you do kill people of significance – it’s the fun that we have with people’s expectations,” Gough added. However, Wednesday’s fate has no straightforward doom written as Thornhill’s.

A sneak peek from part two already confirms Wednesday is alive. But is she really safe? Well, for one, Tyler is running amok, that too, without a master this time. And to worsen it, Wednesday was already struggling with psychic failures. Plus, the mid-season finale nearly left her dead. But if not for Wednesday, the Hyde wouldn’t be on the loose. So, of course, part two will confront the repercussions of her actions from part one.

But if fans are only concerned about Wednesday’s fate in the upcoming part, here’s a woeful reminder. Remember when Wednesday had visions of Enid Sinclair’s grave? The sequence that sent chills down the spines?

According to Millar, “You should still be very worried for Enid.” While that ought to spark major fan theories, for now, all one can do is wait until Wednesday season two, part two, releases on September 3rd.
