Watch these Andrew Garfield superhero movies before they leave Netflix this weekend
The thing with Netflix is that it likes to keep us grounded. With the anticipation of all that’s to come this March, add this heartbreak too: The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, starring Andrew Garfield, are leaving Netflix this weekend.
While it’s always a bummer when one of your favourite movies leaves your go-to platform, it’s non-negotiable since it concerns the licensing agreement between Sony and the various streaming platforms.
Firstly, Sony Pictures doesn’t have its own designated streaming service, which is why it leases its content to other platforms for a set timeline. So, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man’s departure on March 1st has to do with the license expiration.
What may have also come into play is Disney and Sony’s recent deal to bring most Spider-Man films to Disney+. Since the Marvel Cinematic Universe has seamlessly integrated Garfield’s Peter Parker, it makes sense if they want to keep all the Spider-Man variants in one place.
That said, this puts the superhero fanatics officially on the clock. With just two days before the train leaves the station, you can easily make two back-to-back movie nights with The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But if you want to complete both at one go, even better! Suit yourself.
If you miss watching them by the March 1st deadline, it could be a while before you find them all at once. So, if you were putting them off for a later watch, there’s seriously no better time than now.
Directed by Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man kicks off the reboot of the iconic Spider-Man film series, bringing Garfield to the fold alongside Emma Stone playing Gwen Stacy. The superhero movie follows teenage outcast Peter Parker as he gains superpowers from a spider-bite and saves the city from a horrendous reptilian villain while also trying to live an ordinary life.
The sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, follows Peter Parker’s investigation of his parents’ death, his gradual face-off with supervillain Electro and his reunion with childhood friend Harry Osborn.
With Spider-Man: Brand New Day also landing this year, this trip down memory lane could actually turn out to be useful for viewers out there. So, consider this your last reminder because the time is ticking!
