Watch the official trailer for Netflix’s 'The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf'

The Witcher-verse keeps expanding, and ever since the teaser for Netflix’s new anime film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf was released a few weeks after the first-ever online WitcherCon, fans were bubbling with excitement for the new film to arrive on August 23, 2021.

Netflix released the trailer for the film just a few hours ago, and there is a lot to unpack.

Animated by Studio MIR and written by Beau DeMayo, the film is directed by Kwang II Han. Lauren Schmidt Hirssrich is on board the production, using the experience she gathered from having run the Henry Cavill-led The Witcher series on Netflix.

This film shall give us an insight into Vesemir, who had mentored Geralt of Rivia. Vesemir shall also make an appearance in Cavill’s series. The times are very different for Vesemir. While Geralt was treated as a monstrosity and abomination in the series, the film features a time when witchers were revered, and there were plenty in the number who would fight monsters and protect villagers in lieu of a coin.

The film promises to give an insight into how the witchers came to being as we see a young boy being fed a green “poison” that causes his transformation. The premise seems to be a light-hearted and humorous bloodbath where Vesemir and his chaperon, a witch, shall engage in a monster-killing spree to save humanity.

Voiced by Theo James, Vesemir already seems like a strong, playful and fun-loving guy, and we cannot wait to see what the film has in store for us.

The trailer already made us nostalgic for the series itself, and we can no longer keep calm about the upcoming season two, set to premiere on December 17, 2021.
