Watch ‘The Good Detective’ before it leaves Netflix next week

Netflix’s revolving door is once again picking up pace, and the next in line to bid goodbye to the streamer is The Good Detective.

Nothing lasts forever, not even the shows on Netflix that become a part of everyday life. Likewise, the South Korean television series is racing against time to keep you glued to the screen before it exits.

The Good Detective is scheduled to leave Netflix on November 18th for those curious. So, if you were stalling a binge session with detectives Kang Do-chang and Oh Ji-hyuk, you really need to act fast.

Set in Incheon, South Korea, the crime drama, which originally aired on JTBC, follows two detectives, one veteran who has worked in law enforcement for 18 years, and another considered “elite,” with nine years of experience in the field.

Despite their converging points of occupation, Kang Do-chang and Oh Ji-hyuk are anything but alike. If anything, their investigative tactics are polar opposite. The former detective investigates cases relying on his decades-long experience, seeking help from his existing sources and personal connections. He isn’t very inclined towards scientific techniques or keen on treating his subject matter with rationality.

On the other hand, the latter likes to play it by the book, reasoning with his cases with evidence. Moreover, he also doesn’t disregard the psyche of the criminal in any case, knowing it will help him at least halfway if not entirely. In person, though, Ji-hyuk likes to keep to himself due to a childhood trauma that has rendered him to become somewhat reserved. But the reason behind his being described as an “elite”? It’s because he’s quite wealthy, largely because of his uncle’s inheritance.

The two unlikely detectives come face-to-face for a case to dig deeper into a possibly wrongful murder conviction from five years ago. And although it might seem impossible for the two to join forces, given their opposite traits, it’s exactly what comes in handy as the older detective’s year-long experience and the younger one’s analytical tactics become key to cracking the case.

Besides these two detectives, an invested reporter, Jin Seo-kyung, also becomes crucial to The Good Detective. With them, she also seeks to uncover the deeply hidden secrets involving high-stakes corporate corruption.

Currently, both seasons of The Good Detective are available on Netflix, but the debut season is counting down days until removal. So, before that happens, don’t forget to tune into this intense crime drama series.
