Kevin Smith helming the reimagining of one of the 1980s finest animated series, He-Man: Masters of the Universe is enough to get anyone’s hearts racing. But, with a view of the new full-throttle trailer, which you can see below, we can now be entirely confident that Smith is about to release some of his best work.

Originally made by Mattel, He-Man is a cult classic and sees protagonists He-Man and Skeletor battle it out across the universe for good and evil. It’s a tale as old as time, but Kevin Smith’s adaptation of the series looks to bring it into the 21st century with a bang as part of a new five-episode series.

He-Man: Masters of the Universe quickly became an inspirational series for those that watched the original TV show from 1983-1985. It’s a pop culture phenomenon that is still an inspiration to this day. One such man who was directly inspired by the series was Kevin Smith.

A confessed comic book nerd, Smith has lent his critical eye to several key franchises in the space, but this one feels a little closer to his heart than most. The new series will air on Netflix on July 23, 2021, and has a wonderfully impressive voice cast.

Chris Wood takes on the role of He-Man while Mark Hamill embodies his arch-nemesis Skeletor. There is also Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, Liam Cunningham as Man-At-Arms, Stephen Root as Cringer, Henry Rollins as Tri-Klops, Alicia Silverstone as Queen Marlena, Jason Mewes as Stinkor, among many more.

The new trailer sets the storyline with the magic removed from He-Man’s home planet of Eternia, and therefore the entire universe, the universe is in serious trouble. It will see He-Man having to create alliances with enemies in the name of fighting for the greater good.

From what we’ve seen, Kevin Smith has made good on his promises to keep the series closely aligned with the original while adapting and evolving some of the technical aspects. Watch the trailer for Kevin Smith’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation below.
