Watch the first trailer for David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’s '3 Body Problem'

The television adaptation of the acclaimed book trilogy, The Three-Body Problem (The Remembrance of Earth’s Past Trilogy) by Liu Cixin, is on its way to Netflix. During Netflix’s Tudum livestream, the first trailer for 3 Body Problem was unveiled.

Helmed by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss—the showrunners for Game of Thrones still recovering from the backlash they received from GoT fans for bungling up the ending—along with Alexander Woo, the writer behind True Blood and The Terror: Infamy, this series promises to captivate.

The trailer provided a glimpse into the show’s visually stunning production. Accompanied by a resounding voiceover, the trailer hints at the mysteries that lie within the narrative.

According to Netflix’s official synopsis, the story is about “a young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China” which “reverberates across space and time to a group of brilliant scientists in the present day. As the laws of nature unravel before their eyes, five former colleagues reunite to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.”

The adaptation will have Brad Pitt and Rian Johnson, writer-director of Knives Out, serving as executive producers. Liu Cixin and Ken Liu, the English translator, serve as consulting producers for the series. Cixin, celebrated for his novel The Wandering Earth, previously adapted his story into a successful Netflix film.

The cast includes talented actors such as Jess Hong, Benedict Wong, Eiza González, Jovan Adepo, Alex Sharp, John Bradley, Saamer Usmani, Liam Cunningham, Rosalind Chao, Jonathan Pryce, Marlo Kelly, Sea Shimooka, Ben Schnetzer, and Zine Tseng.

The series is slated for a January 2024 release, slightly deviating from the initial expectation of a 2023 premiere.
