Watch the 2017 Michael Fassbender thriller before it leaves Netflix next week
Michael Fassbender is all set for his Netflix arrival with the upcoming historical drama, Kennedy. But before that happens, the 2017 psychological thriller, starring Fassbender, The Snowman, is counting its days on the service.
The Snowman is scheduled to leave Netflix on April 16th, leaving you less than a week to watch or rewatch it.
The reason behind The Snowman’s impending departure is the same old licensing agreement expiration. Since Netflix typically licenses movies from studios, in this case, Universal Pictures, for a set timeline, when the contract expires, the film exits the streamer until a renewal is signed.
What makes The Snowman’s departure specifically notable is that Netflix just released an original series based on the same character, titled Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole. So, fans of Harry Hole novels now have a very short window to compare the two adaptations on the same platform before the movie disappears.
Although The Snowman originally underperformed at the box office, it has received a lot of love in the aftermath. Part of that credit goes to the star-studded ensemble, supported by Val Kilmer, Rebecca Ferguson, JK Simmons, and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Directed by Tomas Alfredson, the psychological thriller, based on Jo Nesbø’s novel, follows Detective Harry Hole as he investigates a serial killer in Norway, who abducts women during the first snowfall, leaving a snowman at every crime scene. But as a troubled detective, Hole has been struggling with alcoholism, so he has to join forces with Katrine Bratt, who would help him connect cold cases to new murders.
The murderer, infamously known as the “Snowman Killer,” has kept the country on a high alert. And as Harry and Katrine investigate the disappearance of one of his victims, the clues lead them to a cold case in Bergen. While that’s a promising lead, what Harry doesn’t know is that with him closing in on the serial killer, the perpetrator is cornering him, too.
But where do the findings lead? You need to discover for yourself before the week comes to a close.
So, if you were saving The Snowman for a later watch, act fast. And in case you want to make it a marathon with the 2017 movie and Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole, now is the time.
