Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is set to return in the newest Netflix production, Against the Ice, that will feature the harrowing and daunting true journey of a man in search of Greenland.
Recording the historic 1909 event and bringing it into the 21st century, this exciting adventure series will see Coster-Waldau as Ejnar Mikkelsen and Joe Cole as Iver Iversen set against a stunning backdrop.
In 1909, Mikkelsen and Iversen set off on a quest to prove that the world’s largest island, Greenland, is a single piece of land that would help dispel America’s claims to the northeastern part of the country.
In the trailer, Charles Dance as Neergaard says, “When you travel into unknown lands to discover new parts of the globe, it is to ensure the records of your discoveries are delivered back safe and sound.”
On this dangerous expedition, Mikkelsen is shown to be clearly exhausted as he tries to support his claims and achieve success.
It is supposed to be “based on an unbelievable true story” according to the title card, while Mikkelsen and Iversen are shown having fun on their sledges in a rare joyous scene.
Dark and gloomy, the trailer also shows how isolation and the cold cater to their dwindling sanity despite immense perseverance. The trailer closes with a terrifying scene of a wounded polar bear standing above Mikkelsen.
Set to debut on March 2nd, 2022, the film has been co-written by Coster-Waldau, based on Mikkelsen’s books. The film is being helmed by Danish filmmaker Peter Flinth.
