Netflix adapted the LGBTQ+ graphic novel, Heartstopper into a live-action series that will release sometime in spring 2022.

Created by Alice Oseman, the romance series revolves around Charlie and Nick’s blossoming feelings and love story. Opposite in personalities, they find their unlikely friendship overpowered by intense feelings of love and affection.

In their journey of self-discovery, love and acceptance, they navigate through life to find their most raw and vulnerable selves.

Netflix has released some of the first-look images, giving the viewers an insight into the adaptation. Audience members and fans of the graphic novel have expressed their delight and excitement on Twitter at the prospect of the comic coming to life.

The series will star Joe Locke as Charlie Spring, Kit Connor as Nick Nelson, Corinna Brown as Tara Jones, Kizzy Edgell as Darcy Olsson, Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent and William Gao as Tao Xu. Fisayo Akinade, Chetna Pandya and Alan Turkington appear as the teachers in the series.

Touching upon acceptance, coming-out, teenage conflicts and more, the series will feature a diverse and inclusive cast. Besides Nick and Charlie’s tentative romance, it will also explore friendship groups’ anxieties and changing dynamics.

Directed by Euros Lyn, known for his work in Black Mirror and Doctor Who, the series will be produced by Zorana Pigott and Patrick Walters.

After Love, Simon and Alex Strangelove, as well as other heartwarming LGBTQ+ Netflix original films and shows, Heartstopper will become our new favourite after it releases this year.
