How to watch Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson on TV and Netflix
After many months of build-up, delays, and trash-talking, the boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson is well within view. This week, the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion of the world is set to step into the ring with 27-year-old YouTuber and former Disney Channel actor Jake Paul, and it will be livestreamed directly to Netflix.
The bout will be taking place live at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. However, if you cannot make the journey over to the 80,000-capacity American football stadium, Netflix will be streaming the match live, in a move which will see the streaming service lean further into their sports programming. Although Netflix has streamed live events to their platform prior to the Paul vs Tyson fight, this is undoubtedly the biggest live event ever hosted on the platform.
Unlike the vast majority of modern boxing matches, this fight will not be made available on pay-per-view services; subscribing to Netflix is the only legitimate way to enjoy the match. For fans in the UK, the live event is scheduled to take place at 1am GMT on Saturday November 16th, with Tyson and Paul rumoured to be stepping into the ring at around 4am. However, there are six other fights on the card, including Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano.
Paul vs Tyson is set to consist of two eight-minute rounds. Knockouts are permitted in the match but, in spite of some rumours, the pair will not be wearing headguards. Their gloves, on the other hand, will weigh in at 14 ounces, as opposed to the standard ten ounce gloves worn by most professional boxers.
This fight has been controversial for many reasons, with numerous boxing fans citing it as a novelty match. In fairness, this is set to be Tyson’s first professional boxing match since 2005, when he lost to Kevin McBride, while Jake Paul’s boxing opponents have largely consisted of UFC fighters. It should not be controversial to suggest, therefore, that neither opponent is at the top of their game.
Adding to the controversy surrounding the match, Tyson was forced to reschedule the fight from its original date in July due to an ulcer flare-up, which has led numerous figures to question whether the former boxer is physically fit enough to step into the ring with somebody over 30 years his junior.
Despite all the controversy, the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul match-up is expected to be watched by millions of viewers worldwide. If all goes well, the event will boost Netflix’s numbers and likely inspire future live events on the platform. To tune in yourself, log onto Netflix at 1am GMT on Saturday, November 16th.
