With the onset of September, Netflix already had to let go of a huge chunk of movies and shows. But if you think the streaming giant is done with its clearance, you’re clearly mistaken.

Leaving Netflix on September 8th, subscribers are officially on a less-than-a-week deadline to tune in to Poor Things, starring Emma Stone. So, if you’re someone who has been saving the wildly eccentric Hollywood entry for a later watch or a re-watch, you need to act fast before time runs out.

For those curious about why it’s leaving the platform, well, it again boils down to the expiring licensing agreements. Netflix doesn’t own the rights to the movie, so it was licensed from a specific studio for a limited time window, as is the case with most non-original productions. So, when a licensing agreement runs its course, the studio and the streaming service can either negotiate a renewal or let it go, potentially making way for its availability on rival platforms.

That said, there has been no such renewal agreement update as of now, meaning Netflix users are seriously racing against the clock, but thankfully, with a weekend to spare and make the reminder count.

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and based on the 1992 novel by Alasdair Gray, Poor Things follows Bella Baxter, a young Victorian woman brought back to life by a quirky, unorthodox scientist who implants her unborn child’s brain into her head to reanimate her into someone who wakes up in an adult body, possessing the mind of an infant.

Stone delivers a career-defining performance as Bella Baxter, seamlessly transitioning from an adult body trapped in a child’s mind to a fiercely independent, intellectual woman, and showcasing a masterclass in transformation and physical comedy.

While she deservedly won the ‘Best Actress’ award at the 96th Academy Awards, the dark comedy further grabbed three more Oscars for ‘Best Production Design’, ‘Best Costume Design’, and ‘Best Makeup and Hairstyling’.

Additionally, as a dark comedy, Poor Things boldly deals with themes of autonomy, societal hypocrisy, and self-discovery through a bizarrely satirical and unfiltered lens, making the watch a one-of-a-kind experience – equally intriguing and unsettling. So, if you haven’t watched it yet, Netflix is possibly the best way to experience it before it leaves.
