Netflix’s Extraction 2 may not have a great story to boot. It may be the bigger and louder sequel that will carry on its legacy in yet another bigger and louder sequel, but it has got a few things going for it.

The best thing about Extraction 2 is that Sam Hargrave’s action flick doesn’t pretend to be anything more than what it is. And because of Hargrave’s expertise as a stunt coordinator extraordinaire in Hollywood, we get a few elaborate one-take action shots in the Chris Hemsworth flick that can tickle any film school student’s brain.

These cinematic action shots, bound to be more enjoyable on big screens, have become somewhat of a Hargrave trademark.

The award-winning stuntman and director, a big believer in honing your craft and networking skills with short films, has also worked as a second-unit director on films like Suicide Squad, Avengers: Endgame and The Mandalorian season two. He is also a frequent collaborator with the Russo brothers.

In a recently released behind-the-scenes footage from Extraction 2, we see how one of the chase sequences was shot.

From camera operators on bikes and car hoods to get dynamic and sweeping one-take shots of the action to fake-splosions that were heightened in post-production, the cast and crew of Extraction 2 were being every bit Tyler Rake-ish in real life too.

You can catch Extraction and Extraction 2 on Netflix.
