After a successful series premiere just last month, the Netflix original show Vikings: Valhalla has been renewed for another two seasons, both of which will contain eight episodes.
The series itself is a spinoff of the show Vikings, which was highly successful, and itself hit Netflix recently in certain countries. However, with the original show ending in 2020 after running since 2013, Vikings: Valhalla swept in to take its place to high acclaim.
With two more seasons in the queue, the show is set to last at least a few more years. They’ve already wrapped filming on the second season, and it should be dropping in full in 2023.
The show, which centres on historic Viking Leif Eriksson during a time of tension between the English and the Vikings, as well as the Pagans and Christians among the Vikings themselves, was created by Jeb Stuart of Die Hard fame. He also serves as executive producer and showrunner for the series.
When announcing the renewal, he put out a statement to thank the fans, “Fans of Valhalla — THANK YOU to the millions of you who have watched (and rewatched!) Season One. The numbers have been mind-boggling and beyond my wildest expectations. I’m thrilled to be able to confirm that we wrapped and are already editing Season Two and that production will start soon on Season Three. While the storylines for Leif, Freydis, Harald, Olaf, Canute and the rest of our amazing cast are secret, I can say without hesitation that their journeys will be even more epic than what you’ve seen so far. SKÅL!!!”
