‘UNABOM’: the true story of the Unabomber is now in production
Netflix is packing punches this streaming season. Last weekend, the streaming giant made waves across showbiz with the TUDUM live event, offering fans sneak peeks starting from the dark labyrinth of secrets awaiting Hawkins in Stranger Things season five to the gritty underbelly of the Addams family with Wednesday season two.
Now, the streamer has stepped up to bring UNABOM to the subscribers with an interesting new update. According to the Tudum report dated June 4th, 2025, filming is currently underway for UNABOM. The streaming mogul has yet to confirm a release date.
For those uninitiated, UNABOM revolves around the tale of Unabomber, the unrestrained killer infamous for shaking up the US with its terror acts over two decades.
Janus Metz is directing the film from a script co-authored by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Graves. As Metz says, “UNABOM is a story about a young man who feels increasingly disenfranchised by society and decides to take up violence as a means of revenge.” Executive producers for UNABOM include Don Lee, Chalsen, and Graves. Sophie Cassidy is producing the Netflix film for 2.0 Entertainment in partnership with MRC.
UNABOM is based on true events. It follows the life of Ted Kaczynski and his fall from brilliance as a Harvard genius to the notorious Unabomber. The film centres on Professor Henry Murray’s psychological experiments, which catalysed the re-emergence of Kaczynski’s troublesome past following the FBI’s investigation, conducted by agent Joanne Miller, decades later.
Netflix derived the title UNABOM from the FBI’s code name for Ted Kaczynski’s cold-blooded case. UNABOM stands for UNiversity and Airline BOMbing.
The streamer has tapped a star-studded cast for the film, including Jacob Tremblay, Russell Crowe, Shailene Woodley, and Annabelle Wallis.
