‘Trust’: the Sophie Turner thriller climbing the Netflix charts

The most popular movies chart on Netflix has a variety of thrillers this week. However, the one that seems to catch every eye is a surprise entry, the 2025 thriller starring Sophie Turner, Trust.

In the week of April 20th to April 26th, the American thriller had its streaming debut on Netflix’s top 10 weekly chart at number eight after amassing 3.1million views. Additionally, Trust is currently one of the top ten titles trending in 20 countries this week.

While Trust originally had a limited theatrical run in late 2025, its arrival on streaming has turned into a massive water-cooler effect. Similarly, even though the thriller has a subpar 21% Rotten Tomatoes rating, the streaming reception clearly proves that the movie is blowing up on Netflix regardless.

The movie undoubtedly has massive friction between its critical and audience reception. But by the looks of it, Trust has organically gained from the negative criticism, pulling in more audience to judge for themselves or hate-watch, if they may.

One of the primary aspects that may have contributed to Trust’s appearance on the Netflix charts could be the genre-bending mystery, which starts as a celebrity drama, turning into a home-invasion thriller, and culminating in a survival horror.

Turner stars as Lauren Lane, a Hollywood sensation whose life turns upside down after she falls victim to a massive hacking scandal. Although she escapes the paparazzi at a remote Airbnb, she soon realises that she has been trapped by someone she thought she could trust. The plot hits on very modern ripped-from-the-headlines anxieties – themes that are particularly popular with the Netflix audience.

In addition to Turner’s star appeal, Trust’s supporting cast boasts faces that have fascinated fans forever, including those of Katey Sagal, Billy Campbell, and Rhys Coiro, among others. Their respective roles have generated considerable social media buzz, and their presence has anchored plot twists that have set the movie apart.

Plus, the conclusion of the thriller is fairly polarising, which has resulted in the uptick of interpretations online, in turn, boosting its digital popularity. So, when Netflix subscribers had the chance to count on their own understanding, thanks to its streaming availability, they clearly didn’t waste a minute to seize the opportunity.

But if you’re still in two minds about whether to take the chance, all we can say is it would hurt to give a chance to Trust, currently streaming on Netflix.
