Top five ‘Stranger Things’ memes from season five that live rent-free in our heads
The Stranger Things finale may have left Netflix viewers divided on a whole different level, but nothing can take away the fact that it was a cultural phenomenon, one of the greatest kinds the showbiz has seen.
In a world of instant gratification, where long-term commitment is deemed a challenge of its own, what Stranger Things did will forever be recommendable.
When the fifth and final season was released in three parts from November through December, accompanying the timely recaps, buzz, highlights, plot twists, and emotional peaks was a horde of social media memes swarming all over our feeds. Even though the Netflix series is done and dusted, what’s still trending are the memes that followed the final season.
So, in case you’re missing Stranger Things a bit too much, here’s a laughter riot to sail you through with the top five memes that now live rent-free in our heads.
Top five memes from Stranger Things season five
Delightful Derek
If there’s one thing Stranger Things season five has given that fans are immensely thankful about, it’s Derek Turnbow or Dipshit Derek or even better, Delightful Derek. Although the character played by Jake Connelly was first introduced as a bully who used to torture his fellow schoolmates, including Holly Wheeler, over time, he becomes the heart of the show.
Thanks to Joyce and the gang, Dipshit Derek gets his shot at redemption to become Delightfully Derek. While the social world went crazy about Derek since the second he was introduced this season, what’s also true is that the internet hasn’t gone a day without at least one Derek meme flying on the radar.
The Steve circle
The Duffer Brothers promised a full circle with Stranger Things season five, and they undoubtedly achieved one. And if we zoom in, the character to have undergone the most visible transformation is probably Steve Harrington. Somewhat like Derek, Steve was the uptight bully we never thought we’d come to adore, let alone the Hawkins kids. But eventually, he became the ultimate babysitter of the group, who went from dropping others’ daughters home by eight to owning an attitude that makes you want to get his children home by eight, no matter who you are.
Steve is officially in his single mom era!
The podcast meme
Stranger Things season five came with its fair share of backlash, but what we care about the most is the memes that followed right after. Before Max’s escape and during Holly’s first failed attempt at escaping Vecna’s lair, the duo engaged in a trip down memory lane full of self-discovery, self-acceptance, and confrontations that lasted well over minutes. While a significant number of fans may have seen it as a waste of time, social media saw it as its ultimate chance to renew the meme fest.
Although countless memes followed the sequence, the one that takes the cake is the podcast one. It’s absolutely hilarious!
The the four-in-one meme
Mirror, mirror on the wall, can you pick the most versatile of all? Well, in the case of Stranger Things, it has to be Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays Vecna, Henry Creel, 001 and Mr Whatsit in the series. While Mr Whatsit’s inauguration came with its fair share of memes, the one that feels like an icing on the cake is the one below.
The “proud moms of Hawkins” meme
The Hawkins mom outdid everyone in terms of heroics this season, including Karen Wheeler and Joyce Byers. They didn’t shy away from throwing the broken wine bottle, nor did they slow down with the axe. And when it came to graduation, no one looked prouder than the moms of Hawkins, including two of Dustin’s, Claudia Henderson and Steve Harrington.
