Three series to watch while you wait for ‘Running Point’ Season 2
It’s been about a year since Running Point first came out, and it still hasn’t really left the conversation. People moved on to other shows, sure, but this one kept coming back up because it’s very difficult to find a Netflix show that has the same effect as Kate Hudson’s Isla had on us.
And do you know why the first season of the show did so well? It’s because it kept things simple and real. Characters made questionable choices (like us), dealt with work pressure (like us) and kept their relationships from falling apart (again, like us). You’d disagree with them half the time and still want to see what they do next.
Now we have season two finally on the way, dropping on April 23, and we are chomping at the bit. It’s close enough to get excited, but still has enough of a gap where we need something new to watch. And of course, you can revisit the first season, but the question is, how many times can you do it without getting bored?
So if you’re in that in-between phase, it helps to have a few backup options. There are some Netflix shows that have some similarities with Running Point and almost the same energy, and they don’t feel heavy.
Three series to watch while you wait for Running Point
Emily in Paris (2020-)
Yes, we know it’s not about sports, but Emily in Paris is all about being a good sport. Because that’s exactly what we saw Emily doing for five freaking seasons. The poor girl has been trying. to keep it all together – her job, her love life and her friendships – and just when everything seems to come together, another disaster happens.
If what you liked about Running Point was watching someone try to keep their work life together while everything else keeps getting messy, Emily in Paris fits like a glove. And what’s Isla doing in the show? Nothing but constantly adjusting and messing up, and then trying again, just like Emily. Emily dealt with coworkers who don’t quite take her seriously, all while adjusting to a culture she doesn’t understand. We know you might have seen it already, but season six of Emily in Paris is still a bit far, so no harm in a rerun.
Working Moms (2017-2023)
This show connects with Running Point more through its honesty. If you like watching characters who don’t have everything sorted and are just trying to get through their day without completely falling apart, Working Moms does that really well. It’s mostly clear from the name of the show… it oozes chaos.
If you were not familiar with it, let us tell you what happens. Working Moms is a show about a group of women who are new or second-time moms and are dealing with their careers and relationships, all while dealing with their motherhood. The show doesn’t try to make anything look perfect like Running Point, and that’s where most of the humour comes from. You will most definitely find yourself relating to at least one character, even if your life looks nothing like theirs. And once you get into it, it’s very easy to keep going because you just want to see how they handle whatever comes next.
Insecure (2016-2021)
At last, if you loved Running Point because of its focus on friendships and personal growth, Insecure walks on a very similar note. It spends time on the small, everyday moments that end up meaning a lot more than expected, especially when it comes to relationships and figuring out where you are headed.
The story follows Issa as she juggles between work and her friendships in Los Angeles. Nothing is overly dramatic, but everything feels real. You have bad decisions and moments where you are not sure what the right move is. It plays out so naturally that you get invested in the characters very quickly. All in all, a really good watch if you loved Running Point.
