Three Netflix shows like ‘How to Get to Heaven from Belfast’

No Good Deed (Liz Feldman, 2024)

Lisa Kudrow has always been famous for her unapologetically flexing her funny bones, but in No Good Deed, she, alongside Ray Romano, brings the perfect mixture of comedy and thrills. The black comedy series, currently streaming on Netflix, stars Kudrow and Romano as a married couple, the Morgans, who are looking to sell their historically troubled home to start anew, all while hiding the truth that the house is haunted by the tragic death of their son.

No Good Deed primarily follows three families vying to buy the same house in hopes that the purchase will be the solution to all their problems. So, as the Morgans navigate the chaotic potential buyers, trying to conceal the only truth that could chase them away, the inevitable occurs, unknowingly making room for a detail regarding their son’s death that challenges everything they thought they knew about the tragedy.

The Residence (Paul William Davies, 2025)

Based on Kate Andersen Brower’s The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House, The Residence is a mystery comedy series about a fictional murder scandal in the premises of the historic White House. The eight-episode comedy thriller follows the enigmatic murder of Chief Usher AB Wynter during a state dinner where 132 rooms become a crime scene and 157 guests end up as crime suspects, causing uncontrollable chaos and confusion.

The Residence picks up pace as eccentric detective Cordelia Cupp is summoned to investigate the murder and find out the culprit. Although she’s partnered with FBI agent Edwin Park, the friction between the two could easily cut a glass in half. And it goes without saying that neither approves of the other’s approach to the investigation. However, fun and quirks aside, Cupp becomes the key to unlocking the answers to a tragic conspiracy.

A Man on the Inside (Michael Schur, 2024-Present)

Lastly, to end the marathon, there’s A Man on the Inside, a detective comedy series starring Ted Danson as late-in-life spy Charles Niewendyk. The first season of the hit Netflix series saw the recently widowed private investigator infiltrate a retirement community, the Pacific View Retirement Community, to track down the thief who stole an heirloom necklace from one of the residents.

Meanwhile, the second mission of A Man on the Inside had Charles go undercover as an engineering professor at Wheeler College. Charles takes on the case to investigate the theft of a laptop related to a $400million donation, sparking a shift from the cosy mystery vibe to a complex investigation, where the laughter is retained as it is.
