Vampires and werewolves have been integral to supernatural and fantasy genre enthusiasts. Before the Twilight franchise took over the world by storm, The CW had already made teenagers pine over a group of handsome vampires while embedding them within a teen drama filled with cliches.
Developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, the 2009 show, The Vampire Diaries is based on L.J. Smith’sSmith’s eponymous fiction series. Having run for eight long seasons with a whopping number of 171 episodes,
Starring Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Paul Wesley, the show catapulted the trio into superstardom, making them popular household names. With various awards and nominations, the series came to an end in 2017, much to the chagrin of fans.
Set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, the show revolved around the adventures of a high school teenage girl who gets embroiled in a complicated love triangle with two vampire brothers, Damon and Stefan, who are as old as time.
With burgeoning attraction, illicit liaisons, epic adventures and umpteen other villains and supernatural presences, the show unravels the town’s mythical past with each progressing season.
The show had been streaming on Netflix for quite some time as a part of their deal with The CW. However, in March, it will soon leave the platform after staying here for five years after the arrival of the final season. Since the contract expired, The Vampire Diaries will now leave Netflix US on March 18th, 2022. However, the show will still stream in other regions, including the United Kingdom, Australia and India.
This is not the only vampire series that is being removed. After the streamer pulled the Twilight franchise at the beginning of 2022, The Originals and its spin-off series, Legacies is also set to leave the streamer in 2023 and 2027, respectively, as part of the deal.
