This gritty Gerard Butler heist film tops Netflix charts

Gerard Butler has always been a well-known figure in the film industry. Previously a student of law, this Scottish actor and film producer turned to films in the 1990s where he received small yet notable roles in films like Tale of the Mummy, Tomorrow Never Dies etc.

Since then, he has been seen in various productions like Dracula 2000, Dear Frankie, Beowulf & Grendel, P.S. I Love You, The Bounty Hunter, 300, The Ugly Truth, How to Train your Dragon, London Has Fallen, Olympus Has Fallen and more.

Out of various Gerard Butler films now streaming on Netflix, a pretty underappreciated heist film of his has entered the Netflix Top 10 charts, winning over fans globally.

Directed by London Has Fallen co-writer, Christian Gudegast, Butler appeared in the 2018 heist film Den of Thieves alongside Pablo Schreiber, 50 Cent, O’Shea Jackson, Mo McRae, Evan Jones, Dawn Olivieri, Max Holloway etc. The film had been a modest box office success but was showered with love from fans, yet remained under the radar for a while. Currently, development for a sequel is underway.

With a breathtaking bank robbery and gritty action sequences filled with gunshots, the film is a dangerous and clever heist with satisfying encounters and shoot-out scenes for genre enthusiasts.

Set in Los Angeles, the film revolves around a ragtag team of bank robbers and delinquents who plan an impossible yet exciting heist on the Federal Reserve Bank in downtown LA. Soon, they find themselves crossing oath with the current alcoholic sheriff who is determined to make them fail. Butler put in an intense amount of work to gain nearly 30 pounds for his role as the boozing police, ‘Big Nick’.

The film is an exciting homage to the classic heist genre and is pretty well-paced and worth a watch.

Watch Den of Thieves on Netflix now.
