After six, it’s natural to think that the person who went through them is someone who loves love and is not ready to give up on it, but when four of those wives are dead… well, you can understand why people started asking questions, and so does Netflix in its new documentary The Widower: ‘Til Death Do Us Part.

After the massive success of Death of the Pastor’s Wife, Netflix is bringing us another chilling true-crime documentary: The Widower: ’Til Death Do Us Part. The man at the centre of all of this is Thomas Randolph, a Las Vegas man whose already sketchy marital history became the subject of intense scrutiny after his sixth wife, Sharon Causse, was shot dead inside their home in 2008.

Randolph told police that an intruder had killed Sharon and that he had then shot the attacker himself. Wretched, certainly, but apparently straightforward. Except that the supposed intruder, Michael Miller, was someone Randolph already knew.

And there goes the simple explanation. Prosecutors later argued that Randolph had recruited Miller to kill Sharon during a staged burglary so he could collect life insurance money before killing Miller as well. Randolph was convicted, had that conviction overturned, faced another trial and was convicted again.

And that was only the tip of the iceberg. The story kept becoming strange as the detectives dug deeper.

What is The Widower: ’Til Death Do Us Part about?

The Netflix documentary follows a journalist and detective as they revisit Randolph’s marriages and Sharon’s murder, but not just that; the suspicious deaths in his past will also be covered.

And yes, the headline-making detail is difficult to ignore: Randolph had six wives, and four of them died. But keep one thing straight, because this is where true-crime headlines can run away with themselves: Randolph was not convicted of murdering four wives. His convictions concern Sharon Causse and Michael Miller. That distinction is more important than you think.

Why did the case become so notorious?

Because Sharon’s murder opened the door to Randolph’s history, and once investigators started looking backwards, they found plenty that demanded another look.

Previous marriages, insurance policies, suspicious circumstances, old cases – what is there that this man isn’t involved in? All of it was on the table while prosecutors argued that Sharon’s killing had been staged.

Ah, then came the courtroom drama. Randolph was first convicted in 2017, but the verdict was overturned. He was retried in 2023 and convicted again, receiving a sentence of 60 years to life.
