'The Umbrella Academy' showrunner wants to end show after the fourth season

Based on Gabriel Ba and Gerard Way’s graphic novel, The Umbrella Academy amassed a huge fan following ever since its release. The show recently premiered its third season on Netflix last week.

The second season saw the dysfunctional Hargreeves allegedly put an end to doomsday in Texas. However, they soon discover how their actions altered timelines, bringing to the existence, their alter-egos, the antagonistic Sparrow Academy.

Although the two groups clash in the third season, they quickly form an alliance to battle the essential and inevitable end of the universe due to the notorious German “ball of lightning”, the Kugelblitz.

Created by Steve Blackman, the third season introduces new cast members like Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Justin Cornwell, Cazzie David and Genesis Rodriguez, in addition to existing cast members, namely Elliot Page, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Robert Sheehan, David Castaneda, Tom Hopper, Colm Feore and more.

While fans have been busy buzzing with excitement over Elliot Page’s character, Viktor undergoing a seamless transition like Page in real-life and decoding a bizarre end-credits scene, the showrunner has talked about how he has the end of the show in sight.

While Netflix has not officially renewed the show for a fourth season, Blackman has it all planned out and would rather bring it to an end with a season four. He told The Wrap, “I think if we got to season four, it would be a great ending for the run of the show.”

While he surely can do “more”, Blackman feels that a four-season run would be “satisfying for the audience”. Blackman has already pitched the fourth season to Netflix. He has talked about how he knows “the beginning middle and end” of the show.

Talking about possible season four storylines, Blackman said, “I want to pose to the viewer and the fan, ‘Would they be happier without their powers?’ I mean, all they do is complain about being who they are,” before talking about if the group could seemingly be “normal”.

Season three ends with the group allegedly losing their powers and the universe being “reset” which will possibly be the premise for the fourth season.
