Jack Reacher: Never Go Back has claimed the number ten spot in this week’s global top ten chart. It has been a mainstay on this chart for three weeks running, and this week, it has raked in 5.2million hours viewed, with a total of 2.6million views.
The movie, directed by Edward Zwick, follows the former military police officer Jack Reacher, played by Cruise. In this action-packed sequel, Reacher finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy that threatens his own life and the life of Major Susan Turner, portrayed by Cobie Smulders.
Cruise, known for his dedication to performing his own stunts, once again shines in this action thriller, making this yet another relentless action flick with a hint of family drama. While some found the film monotonously formulaic, others found Jack Reacher: Never Go Back a satisfying sequel.
Speaking to Empire, Jack Reacher producer Christopher McQuarrie had shared tentative plans about reimagining Cruise’s Reacher as an R-rated hero who fits in a “post-Deadpool, post-Joker world”.
“It’s a very un-Tom character, and we have plans for an even more un-Tom character that we’ve been talking about, which I’m hopeful about in the future,” McQuarrie continued, “The franchise has moved on, and we haven’t. So we’ve now got stuff in the hopper. The [Jack Reacher] stuff we’re talking about now is tinker toys [compared to it], I’m actually very, very excited.”
Despite receiving mixed reviews, the success of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back on Netflix is a testament to Cruise’s star power and his dedicated fan base that spans generations. It’s also possibly a reminder that sometimes, revisiting older titles can be just as satisfying as discovering something new.
