‘The Talented Mr Ripley’: Watch the Matt Damon classic before it leaves Netflix next week
Netflix never really takes a break now, does it? The streaming giant practically left no stone unturned in reminding the audience what the Matt Damon magic really means with its latest action thriller, The Rip. Now, it’s putting those same viewers on the clock with time slipping fast for The Talented Mr Ripley.
You heard it right! The 1999 classic is officially counting its final days on Netflix before it leaves on March 12th. Therefore, you have a week at maximum to make the most of it.
Deemed as one of the landmark movies of Damon’s career, The Talented Mr Ripley is an intense psychological thriller directed by Anthony Minghella based on Patricia Highsmith’s acclaimed 1955 novel of the same name. Set in the 1950s, the crime thriller stars Damon as the eponymous Tom Ripley, a sly con-artist, tasked with convincing Dickie Greenleaf to return home to America from Italy.
Given Dickie is a rich, brat playboy, Mr Ripley turns out to be not as influential as one would have thought in carrying out the immediate mission at hand. Yet, Ripley becomes unexpectedly attached to him and his palatial lifestyle, ultimately bringing about doomsday for the shipping magnate’s hedonistic son.
While most of you must have noticed the “leaving soon” notice appearing against The Talented Mr Ripley on Netflix, the reason is most likely because its licensing agreement is expiring soon.
Since the 1999 movie is neither a Netflix original nor owned by the streaming powerhouse, it leased it from Paramount Pictures for a set period. Now that the contract is about to end, The Talented Mr Ripley will most probably find another streaming home thereafter.
Netflix constantly cycles through licensed content, and this is definitely not a one-off phenomenon. While The Talented Mr Ripley may land on Paramount+ after this, for now, seize the opportunity until time’s officially up for the thriller.
Although the departure news may come as a surprise, considering there’s a weekend to go, this shouldn’t be as challenging as we think. Sneak it into your weekend watchlists, or simply complete it on a weekday when you’re done with work.
Make the most of the final reminder and save no room for regrets, as the train is confirmed to leave the station next week for The Talented Mr Ripley. Happy streaming!
