The shocking true story behind ‘Stolen Baby: The Murder of Heidi Broussard’

Netflix is now officially home to yet another Lifetime movie ripped from the headlines, Stolen Baby: The Murder of Heidi Broussard, based on a true story that promises to send chills down the spine.

Originally released in 2023, Stolen Baby: The Murder of Heidi Broussard stars Emily Osment as Magen Fieramusca, a woman convicted of murdering her friend and then pretending to be the mother of her friend’s baby.

The Lifetime movie, Stolen Baby: The Murder of Heidi Broussard, alters the names of the rest of the people involved in the true-crime incident, except for Fieramusca and Heidi Broussard, who were initially friends before turning murderer/victim. They met each other in the late 2000s at the Texas Bible Institute in Columbus, Texas. While the friendship was long-lived, in 2019, they were even pregnant at the same time.

But as it turns out, Fieramusca was never really pregnant. Instead, she was pretending to be pregnant and to make the story believable, she informed her friends and even created a baby registry on Amazon. Although Fieramusca put up with the ruse for a really long period, chaos ensued when Broussard and her newborn both went missing on December 12th, 2019, after the former dropped her eldest child off at school.

From security footage and an eyewitness, the authorities placed Fieramusca and her car at Broussard’s apartment, and the witness even revealed seeing another woman and a baby in the backseat.

Upon returning home to the ex-boyfriend she shared a living space with, Fieramusca surprisingly had a baby along with her. She alleged that she had given birth at a birthing centre, despite failing to name the institution. It was when her former boyfriend went on a Target shopping for baby supplies that the authorities confronted him, showing him the picture of Broussard’s missing child.

When he identified the missing child as his own, the FBI was finally able to corner Fieramusca. On December 20th, 2019, Broussard’s body was discovered in the trunk of a vehicle parked at Fieramusca’s home.

According to autopsy reports, Broussard was brutally strangled to death with a leash. The baby was found unharmed and eventually handed over to her father on December 23rd. Fieramusca was eventually found guilty of killing Broussard. She was sentenced to 55 years in prison.

While the case shook the nation back in the day, in case you were in the dark about it, Stolen Baby: The Murder of Heidi Broussard is currently streaming on Netflix.
