The Sandra Bullock comedy dominating Netflix

Sandra Bullock is having a moment on Netflix, the streaming platform she credited with reviving her career during the release of the 2021 The Unforgivable.

After the success of The Proposal, the latest Bullock venture storming Netflix is The Lost City. The action-adventure comedy film has secured the number one position on Netflix UK’s top ten films chart. It has also claimed top spots on Netflix’s lists in Ireland, Malta, and Cyprus.

Bullock, who starred in the hit Netflix sci-fi Bird Box in 2018, told The Hollywood Reporter in 2022, “If it wasn’t for Netflix, a lot of people wouldn’t be working. Their stories wouldn’t be told. Who would think that I, as a woman, would still be working at this point? I would have been out in the cow pasture.”

Directed by the Nee brothers, Aaron and Adam, The Lost City combines elements of romance and chaos. The screenplay, co-written by the Nee brothers alongside Oren Uziel and Dana Fox, is based on a story by Seth Gordon. The film stars the dynamic ensemble of Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, the recently Oscar-nominated Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Brad Pitt in a bloody cameo.

The plot revolves around Loretta Sage (played by Sandra Bullock), a successful yet emotionally burdened romance novelist. Forced into a book tour with her cover model, Alan Caprison (Channing Tatum), chaos ensues when Loretta is abducted by eccentric billionaire Abigail Fairfax, played by Daniel Radcliffe in his kooky era.

Fairfax, convinced that Loretta’s novels hold the key to a lost treasure, takes her to a remote island. Alan, secretly infatuated with Loretta, teams up with ex-Navy SEAL Jack Trainer (Brad Pitt) to rescue her, but of course, things go awry from the get-go. The trio faces gunfire, escapes through jungles, and unravels clues to the supposed treasure.
