The Sandman drops two-part bonus episode on Netflix

The Sandman is the latest series taking the world by storm and fans have even more to cheer with Netflix dropping a special two-part bonus episode out of absolutely nowhere as though Randy Orton is on commissioning duty.

The two bonus episodes were dropped without any fanfare leaving bewildered fans thinking that they had happened upon a binge-watching miracle quite by chance as Neil Gaiman’s universe expanded a tad further.

The episodes stand aside from the usual series as Hisko Hulsing directs an animated tale dubbed ‘A Dream of a Thousand Cats’ and the second instalment is the live-action ‘Calliope’ which was helmed by Louise Hooper.

Hulsing’s stellar voice-over cast is a measure of just how much of a boom the series has been with the likes of Sanda Oh, James McAvoy, David Tennant and Georgia Tennant, Michael Sheen, Nonso Anozie, Gaiman himself, and comedians Joe Lycett and Diane Morgan all lending their talents to the show.

“We endeavoured to make the animated version of ‘A Dream of a Thousand Cats’ as mesmerizing and hypnotic as we could by utilising the magic of real oil paintings on canvas. We combined the paintings with classically drawn 2D animation, based on realistic 3D animation of telepathic cats in order to create a trippy world that feels both grounded and dreamy at the same time,” Hulsing explains.

Adding: “Untold Studios in London created the breathtaking 3D animation of the cats. The wonderful 2D animation, oil paintings and stylising were all done at Submarine Studio’s in Amsterdam.”

Both episodes are on Netflix now and while no further bonus additions have been announced, with The Sandman, you just never know…
