The 'One Piece' character Jamie Lee Curtis would like to be

The One Piece fever is gearing up before the live-action series releases on Netflix at the end of August. But the popular manga and anime series have had a solid fanbase for years. And Jamie Lee Curtis happens to be a part of it.

Recently an old clip of the Everything Everywhere All At Once star has gone viral where Curtis revealed that she is a One Piece nerd.

When a crowd member at the Comic Con event asked Jamie Lee Curtis, “If you were to become anyone from any TV show, who would you be?” Curtis responded, “I’d be Nico Robin from One Piece,” to resounding hooting and claps from the audience.

Curtis was part of a panel along with Scream Queens cast members Emma Roberts, Taylor Lautner, and John Stamos. For those who might be as clueless about Nico Robin as Curtis’ co-stars on the panel seemed to be, Nico is a character created for One Piece by Eiichiro Oda.

Nico is one of the main characters and a member of the Straw Hat Pirates, the crew led by Monkey D. Luffy. Nico made her first appearance in the series during the Alabasta Arc. Nico is known for her unique abilities and her dark past. She possesses the power of the Hana Hana no Mi (Flower-Flower Fruit), a Devil Fruit that allows her to sprout and control extra body parts anywhere she pleases. This power enables her to create additional limbs or even whole copies of herself.

Nico is known for her calm intellect and often serves as the crew’s archaeologist and historian. She is an integral part of the Straw Hat Pirates’ journey. But unfortunately, the fan-favourite Nico Robin won’t be appearing in the live-action adaptation just yet.

Season one of the Netflix adaptation of One Piece will focus on Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji as they chase the fabled One Piece treasure across the oceans as the Navy chases them.

One Piece will have an ensemble cast with Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar helming the series.

The show will also feature a few other notable characters from the manga series, including Luffy’s childhood hero Shanks, Buggy the Clown, “Hawk-Eye” Mihawk, Vice Admiral Garp, Koby, Alvida, Helmeppo, and “Axe-Hand” Morgan. Deadwood actor Ian McShane will be lending his voice as the narrator.

One Piece starts streaming on Netflix on August 31st, 2023.
