We truly do live in unprecedented times. It’s now official, for two weeks, Stranger Things has drifted away from the top spot on the Netflix most-watched list. Season four might’ve been ground-breaking but the week beginning August 8th, its dominancy is a thing of the past.
There is a new kid in town these days and it’s a show that has been in the making for around 30 years now. Yes, the new show taking the world by storm is The Sandman. In fact, even though the show is only fresh to the platform, it has already amassed nearly 70 million viewing hours.
That’s just enough to see it eclipse the limited series Keep Breathing which seems to be holding its breath nicely in the charts after also featuring high up last week. If longevity is what Netflix are looking for from shows in order to develop sustainability then perhaps we might see similar outings in production soon.
In amongst the usual slew of Manifest, Stranger Things and Virgin River are a few newcomers too. Trainwreck: Woodstock ’99 season one has had viewers gobsmacked and potentially put off music festivals for life after the 30-year anniversary celebration of the iconic 1969 counterculture zenith ended up in the plashy depths of muddy hell.
Elsewhere, Uncoupled season one also had a great showing with nearly 27 million viewing hours established off the bat. The series stars How I Met Your Mother favourite, Neil Patrick Harris, alongside Tisha Campbell and Brooks Ashmanskas.
The hotly tipped series comes with the synopsis: “Michael’s life seemed to be perfect, until his long time partner blindsided him after 17 years of being in long time relationship. He has to confront the nightmares of losing his soulmate and suddenly finding himself as a single gay man in his mid-40s.”
