The most popular non-English speaking series on Netflix this week: ‘Olympo’

The world is a vibrant mosaic, and the entertainment capital is just a microcosm of its kaleidoscopic diversity. However, when that diversity is distilled into Hollywood, representation becomes a challenge. Despite the difficulties, Netflix doesn’t believe in confining its craft. If anything, the streaming mogul thrives on pushing boundaries. Hot on the heels of Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos’s billion-euro investment plan in Spain, a Spanish series, Olympo, has reached the summit of Netflix charts.

In the week from June 16th to June 22nd, 2025, Netflix’s latest non-English series, Olympo, took the top spot on the global top ten charts. The Spanish teen-sports drama is currently number one in six countries, including Spain, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Panama. Additionally, the Netflix series is ranked top ten across 46 countries. Olympo has earned 3.2million views alone this week.

For those unaware, Olympo hit Netflix shelves just last Friday, June 20th. And since its streaming debut, the show has become an instant hit with the audience. It has amassed 20.5million viewing hours, ranking well above acclaimed non-English speaking shows like the former chart-topper Mercy for None, The Many Deaths of Nora Dalmasso, and La Palma, among others. Oympo is produced by the team behind Netflix’s superhit Elite.

Olympo is set in the rarefied world of elite athletics, where the Pirineos Centre of High Performance stands as a crucible for the nation’s most promising young talents. But in the cutthroat world of competitive sports, the true test of character lies not just in athletic prowess but in the complex dynamics of human relationships. As they hone their skills and jockey for position, the spotlight shines brightly on the intricate web of relationships and rivalries.

Each is driven to outdo their peers and secure lucrative partnerships with Olympo, the global fashion powerhouse. But regardless of the genre, it is not a typical teen drama. With its potent blend of riveting storylines, unflinching realism, and multidimensional characters, the show has already electrified the streaming landscape. And considering its knockout debut, it’d be no surprise if the creators decide on a long and storied run ahead.

Netflix has yet to renew Olympo for a second season. However, the season finale leaves the door ajar. The first season left several questions unanswered, leaving viewers on a chilling cliffhanger. While its streaming debut at the top of the charts is convincing enough, it remains to be seen whether the anticipation and hype last in the coming weeks. If it does, the likelihood of a second season automatically increases.

With the streaming algorithm still a riddle, only time will tell if Olympo’s cryptic arcs can ride the wave of viewer fluctuation and outlast its volatility. But Netflix’s calculated move to invest in Spain just weeks before the show’s breakout success suggests this is no fluke. It’s a clear signal that the company is deepening its global footprint and rewriting the rules of engagement in the streaming world.

It’s safe to say that Netflix isn’t just adapting to change; it’s becoming an architect of a new era in global streaming.
