The most popular films on Netflix this week: March 2023

Movies will always be the reason we love Netflix most of all. While there are always great series to sink our teeth into, finding both classic and new films to devour on the streaming platform is the true joy. Below, we’ve gathered up the most popular films on Netflix this week.

Spring is undoubtedly just around the corner now, even if the persistent cold weather would have you think otherwise. Still, the first promises of warmer days are whispering through the trees. Until they do indeed finally come, we’ll have to make do by staying indoors watching some of the best films Netflix has to offer.

This week’s run of most popular films has a mix of both classic movies and new ones. Top of the pile is the latter as Idris Elba returns as DCI John Luther to deliver one of the most action-packed films of the month, grabbing 65million hours of viewing this week alone.

In our review, we said of the movie: “Playing a tough yet passionate copper who doesn’t mind craving a few eggs from time to time, Idris Elba’s BBC TV star has been given the 007 treatment in Netflix’s latest action movie adaptation, giving audiences the most accurate impression of what the actor might have looked like if he was handed the keys to James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5.

Netflix’s Luther: Fallen Sun is less Craig’s Casino Royale and more Pierce Brosnan’s Die Another Day; however, telling a completely nonsensical story with so much earnest conviction that it’s impossible not to jump on board. Stripping away the fallible nature of the most recent Bond, Elba’s title character is a heroic caricature of staggering strength and resilience whose ego blinds any sort of objective morality.”

Elsewhere on the list are a whole bunch of classic movies. The Hunger Games and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, are both in the top ten, 16million hours of viewing between them. There is also a fabled Brad Pitt movie World War Z, which has made it onto the most popular series.

Faraway is the other big hitter of the week. Starring Naomi Krauss, the synopsis reads: “Zeynep is unhappy. That’s why she flees to a Croatian island, where her deceased mother bought a house long ago. She hopes to find peace and relaxation finally – but she hasn’t reckoned with Josip, who still lives on the property.”
