The Kevin Hart buddy cop film riding high on Netflix

Kevin Hart and his buddy cop escapades with Ice Cube have again shot up to the Netflix top ten charts.

Ride Along 2, the sequel to the 2014 original, has planted itself as the sixth most-watched film on Netflix UK. Directed by Tim Story, Ride Along 2 reunites Hart and Ice Cube in a whirlwind adventure through Miami’s underworld.

Written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, the film follows Ben Barber (Hart), a fast-talking security guard with dreams of becoming a detective, as he teams up once again with his soon-to-be brother-in-law, James Payton (Ice Cube), a seasoned detective with a low tolerance for nonsense. The film also features an ensemble, including Ken Jeong, Benjamin Bratt, Olivia Munn, Bruce McGill, and Tika Sumpter.

In this action-packed sequel, Ben accompanies James on a trip to Miami to track down a drug lord. But as with any buddy cop flick worth its weight in popcorn, chaos ensues. From high-speed chases to comedic mishaps, Ride Along 2 has it all.

Despite its lukewarm reception from critics, who dismissed it for being hackneyed, Ride Along 2 found its stride at the box office, raking in a whopping $124.6 million worldwide during its theatrical run. And now, thanks to the magic of streaming, it’s capturing the hearts (and tickling the funny bones) of Netflix viewers all over again.

What sets Ride Along 2 apart isn’t its groundbreaking plot or profound character development—it’s the undeniable chemistry between its leads that appeals to a certain demographic with a penchant for silly hijinks, star camaraderie, and easy comfort. Kevin Hart’s signature brand of fast-paced, frenetic humour pairs perfectly with Ice Cube’s deadpan delivery. It’s a formula that’s tired but tried and true.

So, if you are in the mood for a bit of mindless fun you can tune into Ride Along 2 on Netflix and catch the trailer here:
