‘The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare’: Where is Bryan Kohberger now?

Although The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare takes a victim-first approach, rightfully honouring the lives gone too soon with interviews of the victims’ families, the documentary also provides never-before-heard insights into the killer: Bryan Kohberger. Almost a month after the string of murders rocked the town, the ultimate breakthrough came when male “touch DNA” was found on the knife sheath, leading the authorities to trace the profile and narrow it down to the Kohberger family tree. CCTV footage of the white Hyundai Elantra and cell phone records also ultimately gave him away, resulting in his arrest on December 30, 2022, at his parents’ residence in the Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania.
Kohberger was taken into custody without incident and extradited to Idaho to stand trial, ultimately ending the nationwide manhunt. Although he managed to avoid immediate apprehension, the perpetrator is currently serving four consecutive life sentences at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution near Kuna, Idaho.
Kohberger pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary in July 2025 to avoid the death penalty. However, before The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare could premiere on Netflix, a twisted development in the case left the world shocked once again.
In July 2026, Kohberger filed a court petition seeking to withdraw his guilty plea, alleging that his legal team had “misled” him and maintaining his innocence.
While the development has sparked massive outrage and backlash, it remains unclear whether it will be granted. However, if it does happen, he will probably go to trial, and this time, he probably doesn’t care if it all culminates in a death penalty (via TIME).
