The holiday sparks are clear as daylight in ‘Emily in Paris’ season five trailer

Unlike the previous seasons, Emily in Paris will begin with Emily Cooper’s detour to Rome, Italy, in the fifth season. So, just in time for the highly anticipated comeback, Netflix dropped an exciting new trailer, which sees quite the sparks flying from different directions.

For those in need of a recap, in the last Emily in Paris outing, Emily’s boss, Sylvie, ordered her to open up a new Agence Grateau office in Rome.

The trailer confirms that Emily is on a mission to establish some serious business when the show returns for its fifth chapter this December. But whether it will be a smooth sail for her in these international waters is a question that keeps interrupting.

As is always the case with Emily, she heads towards her new life with the same can-do attitude with which she owned Paris, albeit with a new look and newer obstacles. But the trailer teases some inevitable forks stuck in the road. “She’s bolder, braver, stronger, and more adventurous. She’s in a new city and a new country, figuring out her life, love, and work,” Lily Collins told Tudum.

Marcello is completely smitten with Emily, and he clearly cannot keep his hands off her, even during the meetings. However, his mother, Antonia? She doesn’t look as impressed by the American expat’s marketing ideas, which leaves Emily feeling like she’s struggling to translate what’s on her mind. While hardships in a foreign land are not new for Emily, what’s new, though, is her sleek new look that screams equal parts Italian and French.

“The new look feels like her way of saying, ‘I’ve matured, I’m taking myself more seriously – so please take me seriously, too’ – while also embracing the idea of taking life itself a little less seriously,” Collins explains. “There’s a sense of her letting go – literally and figuratively – of some of the weight she’s carried. She’s living life a bit more freely and carelessly, even if she still has her stressful moments.”

Creator Darren Star described the upcoming Emily in Paris instalment as “one of his favourite seasons” of the series. “The story feels fresh to me. The relationships feel more mature this season, and I think there’s a lot for the entire ensemble to do.”

With Emily stepping into her latest adventure, loaded with complications of all kinds, the Emily in Paris trailer also ensured viewers paid enough attention to what’s brewing between Mindy and Alfie, as they share glances and smiles.

To everyone’s surprise, Sylvie can also be seen softening up a bit. As for Gabriel? He’s looking forward to the “future.” Although it’s unclear what the future exactly has for them in store, to find out, don’t forget to catch up with Emily in Paris on December 18th, as the show returns on Netflix with its fifth season.
