‘The Gentlemen’ is confirmed for season two

Having spent weeks as one of the most popular shows on Netflix following its release, it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that it was only a matter of time before the streaming service officially pulled the trigger and renewed The Gentlemen for a second season.

However, even the stars of the series admitted there were no guarantees, with scheduling conflicts providing a potential roadblock. Creator, executive producer, writer, and director Guy Ritchie is a very busy man, as are stars Theo James and Kaya Scodelario, which placed subscribers on tenterhooks.

After all, the filmmaker is in post-production on Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal’s action thriller Into the Grey, is in the midst of directing AppleTV+ adventure Fountain of Youth with John Krasinski and Natalie Portman, and recently boarded the origin story series Young Sherlock for Prime Video as director and executive producer.

James, meanwhile, has Longlegs director Osgood Perkins’ Stephen King adaptation The Monkey and heist thriller Fuze on the way, so trying to corral everyone together could prove to be an issue. Fortunately, Netflix has worked out the scheduling, with The Gentlemen confirmed to be returning, even if the next run of episodes is a while off.

The final episode of the first season left the door wide open for James’ Eddie Horniman and Scodelario’s Susie Glass to continue their rise up the ranks of the London underworld, with the pair entering a business arrangement as the co-owners of a massive marijuana empire alongside Ray Winstone’s Bobby Glass.

It would have been a huge disappointment were things to be left at that, but The Gentlemen will be back. As of yet, only James, Scodelario, and Daniel Ings’ Freddy Horniman are confirmed to be reprising their roles alongside Ritchie’s return as director and co-writer alongside Matthew Read, but Netflix has confirmed more casting new “will be announced at a later date.”

Production won’t be commencing until next year, though, which means it’ll probably be early 2026 at the earliest by the time The Gentlemen returns to screens. At least it’s happening, which wasn’t a given when the principal players never signed multi-season contracts with Netflix, which has presumably led to some intense negotiations on both sides to hammer out the specifics ahead of the season two confirmation.

The streamer was never going to let such a huge hit get put out to pasture; the only downside is that there’s going to be a wait.
