‘The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity’: the anime climbing the Netflix charts

Viewers have looked forward to Netflix’s anime season with bated breath this year. But the delays surrounding The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity in the US almost had them flipping and sweating.

Yet, following its September 7th release, the frenzy can be felt paramount. The anime wasted no time landing on Netflix’s non-English TV shows list in the week dated September 8th to September 14th.

Currently ranked fifth on the chart, it has amassed 2.5million views alone this week as the top ten show in 26 countries. For the uninitiated, The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity is a romantic anime series from Saka Mikami’s manga, serialised in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket. Cloverworks serves as the animation studio behind the Netflix series directed by Miyuki Kuroki.

The anime was previously reported to be released weekly on Netflix from July 6th (via What’s on Netflix). However, this only applies to Japanese broadcasts. The show was instead released on the streamer in select regions this September, and the viewership ranking suggests that the wait was actually worth it.

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity unravels amidst the high-stakes dispute between two schools: Chidori High and Kikyo Girls High. The former is infamous for students with troublesome academic records, while the latter is renowned for students from prosperous and prestigious families.

But the show takes a pivotal turn when Rintaro Tsumugi, a second-year student at Chidori High with a rugged appearance and a heart of gold, meets a customer, Kaoruko Waguri, at his family-owned patisserie. Kaoruko is not someone who judges a book by its cover, and Rintaro quietly appreciates their brief but sweet interactions. However, things begin to fall apart just as Rintaro finds out Kaoruko hails from none other than Kikyo Girls High.

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity unfolds between the chaos of this revelation, as they embark on a challenging journey to defy the societal bias and choose their own destiny. The Netflix series currently has ten episodes, and fans are clearly showing massive love. But in case you were out of the loop, don’t forget to tune into The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, currently streaming on Netflix.
