The Princess Switch (Mike Rohl, 2018)
If you’re a grownup, you’re bound to follow the trail of nostalgia this holiday season. And what better bait to lure you in than the iconic romantic comedy, The Princess Switch? The Christmas rom-com, currently streaming on Netflix, revolves around a pair of doppelgangers, Stacey DeNovo and Lady Margaret Delacourt, both portrayed by Vanessa Hudgens.
Despite being look-alikes, their lives are anything but similar. However, one fine day, they cross paths with each other and decide to live one another’s lives for a few days during the Yuletide. But little do they know their harmless game of swapping lives has serious romantic consequences awaiting their fates.
Left-Handed Girl (Shih-Ching Tsou, 2025)
Not every weekend is for movies that overwhelm you with cutthroat action or unimaginable thrills. Some are simply designated for stories with a heart, and probably this one, too, is. So, in case you’re on the lookout for something that touches your soul, Shih-Ching Tsou’s directorial debut, Left-Handed Girl, is what you need to watch out for.
The coming-of-age portrait tells the heartwarming story of a single mother and her two daughters who return to Taipei after years of residing in the countryside. They plan to start a business and open a stall of their own in the always-busy night market. While each member must figure out how to adapt to the rapid change and keep their family together, intergenerational family secrets begin to surface when their traditional grandfather bans the youngest left-handed granddaughter from using her “devil hand.”
Back to the Future (Robert Zemeckis, 1985)
From the minute Stranger Things landed on Netflix with the first volume of its fifth season, the yearnings for sci-fi titles have grown twice as much. So, we’re taking a trip down memory lane for a classic rewatch instead, with Back to the Future. Set in 1985, it follows Marty McFly, who is mistakenly launched into the past in a time-travelling DeLorean automobile, built by his scientist friend.
Marty is sent back to 1955, where his intervention with time and its laws nearly threatens his own existence when he stands in the way of his parents falling in love. Now, it’s up to him to make amends between them before he gets back to the future.
See You Yesterday (Stefon Bristol, 2019)
Based on Stephon Bristol’s 2017 short film, See You Yesterday is yet another sci-fi film to leave you seated with while the Stranger Things fever lasts. The Netflix adventure flick boasts a whopping 93% Rotten Tomatoes rating, making it ideal for your Sunday, where the quality of the content is non-negotiable.
See You Yesterday primarily revolves around two highly intelligent science prodigies who are preoccupied every minute of the day with their recent groundbreaking homemade invention: a time-travelling backpack. While not many may think much of it, it does come to their aid when one of their older brothers is killed, leaving the unfinished project as the only resort to prevent his death.
