Netflix already had more than enough going on last week before we even got anywhere near the five bigger stories below, because Sweet Magnolias has officially wrapped things up after five seasons, and, almost before fans had time to process that, Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen turned up in the first look at The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey, which now has a December 10th release date attached to it.

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 returned for another season along with Best of the Best, which has now become another dance drama movie being added to the platform’s catalogue.

Sure, The Doll got viewers captured with its mystery, and the fans always dig a good period drama. So yes, the release side of things was already crowded before Netflix started dropping massive announcement bombs that got everybody’s attention.

So if you were not glued to Netflix news every day, fair enough, because that is what this roundup is for. Here are the five updates that actually mattered.

Netflix sets release dates for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia

Well, there it is. After years of wondering when Greta Gerwig’s Narnia would finally stop lurking somewhere on Netflix’s horizon, The Magician’s Nephew now has actual dates attached to it. IMAX previews begin on February 10th, 2027, and the film opens in cinemas worldwide on February 12th. Ahh, but all we care about is its Netflix release date, and that will be April 2nd.

Gerwig has written and directed the film, which will be the first screen adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s The Magician’s Nephew, and the cast is hardly keeping expectations in check. Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep are all on board, which is something you want to keep your eyes peeled for. Netflix picked up the Narnia rights back in 2018, so yes, this one has absolutely taken the scenic route getting here, but we finally have something concrete.

Netflix and SEGA announce a Crazy Taxi movie

Anyone who spent the early 2000s driving like a lunatic while The Offspring screamed through the speakers, hello, Netflix has found you. SEGA and Netflix confirmed on September 14th that Crazy Taxi is becoming a feature film, with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand (also the duo behind the 2025 Naked Gun reboot) handling the screenplay.

And apparently one taxi was not enough. The announcement also revealed a broader collaboration between Netflix and SEGA that includes projects based on Sonic and STRANGER THAN HEAVEN. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara, all closely tied to the Sonic film franchise, are producing the Crazy Taxi adaptation. No cast or release date yet, so hold your horses there.

Pride and Prejudice gets a December Netflix release date

Of course Netflix chose the Jane Austen Festival in Bath to drop this one! Netflix, you beaut. Come on, where else were they going to do it? The new Pride and Prejudice series will premiere on December 3rd, which means Dolly Alderton’s six-part take on Austen’s novel has gone from vague 2026 promise to something you can now put on the calendar.

Emma Corrin is Elizabeth Bennet, and Jack Lowden is Mr Darcy, with Olivia Colman playing Mrs Bennet, so the cast alone is enough to give many the tingles. Euros Lyn directs, while Alderton has written the adaptation, and Netflix used the festival reveal to show off 11 characters from the series.

Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story leads this week’s new releases

Looks like September 17th was a big day for Netflix, as the platform dropped Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story on its viewers that day as the fourth instalment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s anthology, with Ella Beatty taking on Lizzie Borden while Vicky Krieps plays Bridget Sullivan. Charlie Hunnam and Rebecca Hall appear as Andrew and Abby Borden, and Sarah Paulson turns up as Aileen Wuornos in a story that stretches far beyond the 1892 murders.

The week around it was packed too. With The Doll released on September 16th, Best of the Best followed on September 18th with Maitreyi Ramakrishnan in a college comedy built around competitive Bollywood-fusion dance. Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare also joined Netflix during the week. Woosh, quite the week!

The Gentlemen and Why Did I Get Married Again? top Netflix charts

Now for the numbers, because The Gentlemen season two reached number one on Netflix’s chart with 9.9 million views, while the first season once again made its grand appearance at number three, adding another 5.5 million to its already heavy viewership.

Tyler Perry had an even bigger week on the film side, where Why Did I Get Married Again? debuted at number one with 19.3 million views. The sequel reunites the old friendship group for Jasmine’s destination wedding in Italy, with Taraji P. Henson joining as Roselyn. Might not be as surprising, as many, including Netflix, saw these numbers coming.
