The five biggest updates from Netflix this week: October 2026

Netflix hadn’t even finished October before it started dangling November’s temptations in front of us, and judging by what’s coming, November isn’t exactly short of reasons to stay in. The Hunting Wives season two? Black Doves season two? Oh, the watchlist is already protesting.

Meanwhile, Netflix won a bidding war for AWOL, a new dramedy from the team behind Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. However, plot and casting details are still under wraps, but the people behind it make this one worth keeping an eye on.

Elsewhere, Nobody Wants This season three debuted with 6.2 million views, down from last season’s 8.6 million, which, sadly, is not quite the start fans might have expected, although it was still Netflix’s biggest returning-comedy debut of 2026.

Still keeping up? The Hunchback, Soul of Paris, got a rather gloomy new trailer too, but there’s more. Here are five of the week’s biggest announcements.

Netflix announces live-action PUBG: Battlegrounds series starring Donald Glover

Oh, Netflix has only officially entered the battle royale arena, and guess who’s leading the charge: Donald freaking Glover! The streamer is developing a live-action series based on PUBG: Battlegrounds, the survival game that needs no introduction. And Glover isn’t just showing up to look cool on screen, either. The Atlanta star is writing, starring and directing the show.

And as if that weren’t enough, it’s a proper family affair, too! Donald’s brother and long-time collaborator Stephen Glover is joining as a writer and executive producer, with game publisher KRAFTON involved through its entertainment arm, LV3H. For anyone who’s missed the PUBG craze, the game essentially throws players into a fight for survival until only one player or team remains. How the Glovers plan to turn that into a television series is anyone’s guess, but they’ve certainly got room to get creative.

Haunted Hotel renewed for Season 3

Congratulations, the Undervale Hotel is staying open for business, and apparently, the ghosts aren’t going anywhere! Netflix has renewed Haunted Hotel for season three, with the animated horror-comedy returning in 2027. The news dropped on October 30th, just three weeks after season two premiered. Talk about a speedy renewal!

Created by Rick and Morty writer Matt Roller, the series follows single mum Katherine as she attempts to run a haunted hotel with a little help from her ghostly brother Nathan. As it turns out, Roller had already finished writing season three before Netflix even gave it the green light. At least the scripts won’t be holding things up! Eliza Coupe and Will Forte are returning to the voice cast alongside Skyler Gisondo, Natalie Palamides and Jimmi Simpson.

The One About Matthew Perry and Dead-End Job lead Netflix’s new releases of the week

Netflix made sure to break our hearts into a million pieces and scare the living daylights out of us this week, and we’re not sure if any of us was ready for that sort of emotional whiplash! First up was The One About Matthew Perry, which arrived on October 27th, and the documentary took us beyond the Chandler Bing jokes we grew up loving to revisit the actor’s life and his heartbreaking struggles with addiction. Directed by Mary Robertson, it features moving accounts from Perry’s sister Mia and his long-time friends, alongside unseen family photos and videos that give viewers a glimpse of Matthew away from the cameras.

And just when we’d finished reaching for the tissues, Netflix decided to throw us into an absolute nightmare with Dead-End Job. The South Korean horror series stars Lee Jae-wook as Hyeok-jun, a young man drowning in debt who finds himself drawn to a series of suspicious temporary jobs offering a whopping 50 times the standard hourly wage, except there’s one rather horrifying catch: each assignment could end up costing him that very life. Some emotional roller coaster that was.

Pride and Prejudice gets its first official trailer ahead of the December premiere

The yearning is officially back in fashion, and Netflix has given it the stamp of approval by releasing the first full trailer for its new Pride and Prejudice adaptation on October 29th, giving us a proper look at Emma Corrin’s Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden’s Mr Darcy. There are sweeping country estates, as the book lovers must’ve imagined during their first read, and the very polite conversations to keep Regency romance devotees occupied for days. And yes, Olivia Colman is playing Mrs Bennet, which is like the cherry on top.

The six-episode series comes from Everything I Know About Love writer Dolly Alderton, with Heartstopper director Euros Lyn behind the camera. Rufus Sewell plays Mr Bennet, while the cast also includes Fiona Shaw, Daryl McCormack and Louis Partridge. Alderton has said the adaptation stays faithful to Jane Austen’s novel while giving some overlooked characters and storylines more breathing room. We’ll see how it fares when the series lands on Netflix on December 3rd.

Bridgerton Season 5 officially wraps filming

Another romance is standing in line after the trailer announcement, and the ton has one more reason to gossip: Bridgerton season five has officially wrapped filming. Netflix confirmed the news on October 26th, bringing the next chapter of its lavish Regency drama one step closer to our screens. This time, the spotlight moves to Francesca Stirling (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza). After all those ballroom scandals, the show is ready to make history with its first central same-gender romance.

Season five picks up two years after the death of Francesca’s husband, John, as both women navigate the possibility of finding love again. Showrunner Jess Brownell has teased a story centred on queer joy rather than trauma, with plenty of the aching romantic tension Bridgerton does so well. The new episodes take inspiration from Julia Quinn’s When He Was Wicked, albeit with a significant change to the original love interest.
