The five best series to binge on Netflix this weekend
Boots (Andy Parker, 2025)
Ever had one of those weekends where you run out of things to watch? But October is not the month Netflix will make you feel so. The streaming platform recently released a heartwarming military drama that stays with you long after the credits roll, Boots. It’s time that you judge for yourself how it already boasts a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, despite not having completed even a week of its tenure on Netflix.
Based on Greg Cope White’s memoir, The Pink Marine, Boots on Netflix tells the story of a closeted gay teenager from Louisiana who follows in the footsteps of his straight best friend by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Set in the 1990s, the series follows Cameron Cope, Ray McAffey, and their fellow Marines during their super strict boot camp training as Cope grapples with his newfound reality that ultimately shapes his identity forever.
House of Guinness (Steven Knight, 2025)
Historical dramas on Netflix have always had our hearts. And Steven Knight’s House of Guinness just doesn’t disappoint. The British-Irish series turns back the clock to 19th-century Ireland and New York to revisit the story of the most enduring legacies of all time, focusing on the Guinness brewing company and the family who made it happen.
House of Guinness picks up the narrative in the years following Sir Benjamin Guinness’s death, centring on the extensive consequences of his will on his four adult children: Edward, Arthur, Benjamin, and Anne. Boasting 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, the eight-episode period drama exactly fits the bill of a weekend watch. So, don’t miss out on it.
Monster: The Ed Gein Story (Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, 2025)
Halloween is the season when people welcome monsters of all kinds. Although Monster: The Ed Gein Story tells the story of a man-made monster that everyone would definitely want to keep a thousand miles away, it is definitely one of those series that will bring you chills this spooky season.
The Ed Gein Story revolves around the notorious butcher of rural Wisconsin, who was practically a living nightmare for women and the community surrounding him. Charlie Hunnam portrays the titular character on screen, offering viewers a spine-tingling insight into his origins and the monster he grew up to be, influencing pop culture and Hollywood in more ways than one.
The Diplomat (Deborah Cahn, 2023-Present)
As one of the leading political thrillers on Netflix, the anticipation for The Diplomat’s third season had hit the roof. And it makes sense after the highly suspenseful ending of the second instalment. The third season will pick up right after Kate Wyler confronted Vice President Grace Penn for her involvement in the terrorist plot that had viewers biting their nails in the previous season.
But as the president is now dead and Kate’s husband Hal might have unintentionally killed him, Kate has a lot to grapple with, including the fact that Penn is now the ultimate leader, and she has to take up a role she never wanted in the first place. For first-time watchers, make the weekend a whole-hearted marathon for The Diplomat. As for the ones returning for the third season, hold your lattes, as it’s going to get wilder here onwards.
Genie, Make a Wish (Ahn Gil-ho, 2025)
Rom-coms may not be the genre viewers seek when it’s Halloween season. But Genie, Make a Wish on Netflix just brings the fantastical touch that draws you in more and more. The South Korean series, which is also a relatively recent release from Netflix’s coattails, follows an unlikely love between a genie, Iblis, carrying a 1000-year-old baggage of vengeance in his heart, and a cold and psychopathic young woman, Ka-young, who has spent all her life under the strict guidance of her grandmother.
One fine day, Ka-young stumbles upon a lamp and unleashes Iblis, who grants her three life-altering wishes, setting the stage for a romantic comedy drama that ends up turning both their lives around. Genie, Make a Wish shines with a promising 83% Rotten Tomatoes score. While it isn’t exactly a series you can get over with in a day, a weekend is just the perfect amount of time to finish the marathon you crave.
