With the festive clouds hovering over our heads like a God-send mistletoe, Netflix has shouldered the responsibility to ensure every day is a holiday. New players have rolled into the holiday guest list, and familiar members have donned the Christmas glow for a banging comeback. So, in order to greet them, check out the five best series to watch on Netflix this weekend!
The five best series to binge on Netflix this weekend
Emily in Paris (Darren Star, 2020-Present)
It’s hard to resist the allure of Emily in Paris, let alone Emily in Rome. But now that the fan-favourite fashionista is back to business with her Roman chapter on Cupid in season five of the hit Netflix rom-com series, there’s no way you can skip out. Not this weekend, at least! Last we saw Emily Cooper, she was in Rome, smitten with her new beau, Marcello, and setting the stage for an Agence Grateau office there.
So, it’s no surprise that it’s in Italy where we begin Emily in Paris season five. While her on-and-off romance with Gabriel was always the centrepiece of the show, with Emily’s heart now in Rome, viewers have yet to see whether she finds a reason to return to Paris. Hence, to know the same, make sure to open the envelope of revelations while it’s still hot because, believe it or not, spoilers are not too far behind.
Home for Christmas (Per-Olav Sørensen, 2019-2025)
Home for Christmas is back on Netflix just in time for, well, Christmas. For those craving an extended bite of holiday romance and festive drama, season three is currently streaming on Netflix globally. The character-driven drama series primarily revolves around a 30-year-old single nurse, Johanne, who’s somewhat tired of everyone questioning her single status.
When Christmas comes around in the first season, Johanne takes the easy way out, or so she thinks, lying about having a boyfriend. What she doesn’t see coming, although, is from where she could source one. While her search for love continues in the second season as well, it concludes with a significant reflection on her part. Although what awaits in the third season is for you to find out, just in case you’re new to the fold, make this a three-season weekend marathon that just won’t disappoint.
Man vs Baby (Rowan Atkinson and William Davies, 2025)
Everybody loves rom-coms in December. But if you have no room for romance, we don’t judge. We simply recommend. So, for those in need of a laugh-out-loud festive suggestion, start streaming Man vs Baby starring the fan favourite Mr Bean, Rowan Atkinson. The British comedy series serves as the follow-up to Man vs Bee, released on Netflix in 2022.
Man vs Baby picks up with the eccentric protagonist, Trevor Bingley, who has found a quieter job to fill his days since the chaos the world witnessed in Man vs Bee. But when a tempting Christmas penthouse gig draws him back to business, Trevor finds an unlikely companion to keep him company over the holidays when no one remembers to collect Baby Jesus from the school premises.
City of Shadows (Jorge Torregrossa, 2025)
Once you’re done with Cupid affairs and punch-fest comedies on Netflix this weekend, we hope that you’d like to return to the roots with the high-octane Spanish thriller series, City of Shadows. Starring Isak Férriz and the late actor Verónica Echegui, this gripping new series, with a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, is reportedly one of the last shows Echegui appeared in.
City of Shadows picks up with a seemingly impossible crime at La Pedrera – Casa Milà when a body, burned to its core, is discovered right at the front of Gaudí’s historic building. The mystery brings Inspector Milo Malart back to investigation, who was recently suspended from the Mossos d’Esquadra for insubordination. But he’s not alone; joining him is Deputy Inspector Rebecca Garrido, and together, they must solve the crime before it’s too late.
The Bequeathed (Min Hong-nam, 2024)
Since we kicked off the weekend with something rather sweet, it’s only fitting that the audience get a thrilling end. So, we brought a show, probably out of December’s syllabus, a Korean occult thriller series, The Bequeathed. The limited series revolves around Yoon Seo-ha, who assumes the inheritance of an enigmatic burial ground following the death of an estranged uncle.
But since becoming the unexpected, Seo-ha cannot wrap her head around the rise in murders, which mysteriously falls back on the family history she continues to remain oblivious to. While family secrets are nothing really new, the ones at the centre of The Bequeathed certainly are. And if you’re craving a slow-burn thriller to warm up your feet with, this is the only fireplace of entertainment we suggest.
