With Sunday around the corner, we’re officially back with yet another Netflix watchlist that will make subscribers fall in love with cinema all over again.

While Netflix already sorted the last leg of the month with a mixed bag of high-profile releases and additions, as viewers step into August, they expect even more to arrive with the loudest drumrolls ever.

Although it’s natural to fumble during the monthly transitions, they’ve got to love Netflix for keeping it cool as far as it’s possible.

But if you feel you can no longer take the weight of waiting, here are the five best movies to watch on Netflix this Sunday.

Black Bag (Steven Soderbergh, 2025)

Since thrills are a must for any Sunday marathon, it’s about time viewers make the most of Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag, currently streaming on Netflix. The gritty spy thriller follows top British intelligence agent George Woodhouse, who is tasked with tracking down a leaked catastrophic cyber weapon called Severus/Seis capable of melting nuclear reactors and destabilising governments, that’s threatening a massive loss of life.

Woodhouse, famous and infamous for his extraordinary ability to detect lies, is assigned to find the traitor within the organisation with a shortlist of suspects that includes his own spy wife, Kathryn. As George hosts a tense gathering with the suspects to test loyalties and flush out the liar, Black Bag revolves around his hardened efforts to trace the culprit, which pushes him down the rabbit hole of a deep-seated conspiracy.

A Private Life (Rebecca Zlotowski, 2025)

Although our Sunday marathons are usually restricted to Netflix Originals, this one’s an exception, thanks to every high-budget addition the streamer opted for. So, for those curious about the next stop, it is Rebecca Zlotowski’s A Private Life, starring Jodie Foster. The French mystery thriller stars Foster as Dr Lilian Steiner, a stoic American psychiatrist in Paris whose meticulously crafted world unravels when she learns of her longtime patient Paula’s death.

While Paula’s daughter Valerie blames the pills prescribed by Lillian and shares a mysterious final message, the deceased’s widower Simon’s hostile encounters with the doctor make her suspect foul play. Honestly, Lillian never really believed that Paula took her own life, and A Private Life follows the former on an obsessive investigation that ultimately forces her to confront her own repressed emotional trauma.

Tár (Todd Field, 2022)

Up next on our Sunday marathon, we have Todd Field’s Tár, led by the powerhouse Cate Blanchett. Set in the international world of classical music, the 2022 psychological drama follows Lydia Tár, a trailblazing world-famous composer-conductor at the peak of her career as the first female chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic. While she commands immense authority in the industry, often using her position to shape orchestras and mentor disciples, the peak doesn’t last long.

Just as she prepares for a major live recording of Gustav Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, alongside the upcoming launch of her memoir, her seemingly perfect public life comes crashing down over emerging allegations of professional misconduct and manipulation concerning past associates. Tár revolves around Lydia’s illustrious rise and fall, especially focusing on her survival after her fall from grace.

The Kid Detective (Evan Morgan, 2020)

Just in case the first three recommendations feel a little too serious for Sunday, lighten up with the Adam Brody crime comedy, The Kid Detective, now on Netflix. The 2020 mystery comedy tells the story of Abe Applebaum, a 32-year-old washed-up private investigator who was once a celebrated child prodigy in his small hometown, capable of solving local mysteries that originally had residents scratching their heads.

But now that he’s still stuck solving trivial local squabbles as an adult, the respect and reputation no longer come easily. However, everything changes for him when a high schooler named Caroline shows up, requesting his assistance to track down the culprit who brutally murdered her boyfriend, Patrick. The Kid Detective revolves around Applebaum’s journey as he takes the case to reclaim his past glory, only to discover a dark underworld of adults tied to drugs and corruption.

Ingrid Goes West (Matt Spicer, 2017)

Lastly, for a conclusive palate cleanser, we wholeheartedly recommend Ingrid Goes West, especially since it’s landing on Netflix this Sunday. The dark comedy is a social satire about Ingrid Thorburn, an unstable young woman from Pennsylvania recovering from a psychiatric stay after stalking and attacking an influencer. While one would expect Ingrid to do better after her release, she unexpectedly relocates to California, thanks to a new Instagram celebrity, Taylor Sloane.

Ingrid uses an inheritance to make the move, ultimately undergoing an entire overhaul to match Taylor’s aesthetics as Ingrid’s newfound obsession towards her and her husband reaches new heights. But when her obnoxious and suspicious brother shows up, he immediately sees through her parasitic behaviour and threatens to expose her. However, little does Ingrid know that her brother poses the least threat in this scenario, astoundingly oblivious to her own capabilities.
