So right on cue, the steamy Brazilian film Burning Betrayal is setting Netflix US ablaze, currently holding the sixth spot on the platform’s top ten films chart.
Directed by Diego Freitas and based on the provocative novel O Lado Bom de Ser Traída (The Good Side of Being Betrayed) by Sue Hecker, this Portuguese-language erotic thriller is causing quite a stir despite all the negative reviews.

Burning Betrayal follows the story of Babi, played by Giovanna Lancellotti, an accountant who discovers her fiancé Caio, portrayed by Micael, is cheating on her. This happens just one night before their wedding, and this betrayal becomes the catalyst for her journey of sexual awakening, leading her into the arms of the enigmatic Marco, played by Leandro Lima.
Marco, a charismatic judge “hot judge” (no, seriously), first crosses paths with Babi during Caio’s court hearing, where he is being questioned over an alleged money-laundering scheme. As Babi navigates the ruins of her previous relationship, she transforms her life by joining a motorcycle club, changing her appearance, and embracing newfound freedom. She even changes her hair colour from blonde to brown, which just goes to show sometimes brunettes do have more fun than blondes.
However, her passionate affair with Marco soon becomes a tangled web of secrets and complications. Marco is not as straightforward as he seems, and a mysterious and aggressive stalker casts a shadow over their relationship. Even the leader of the motorcycle club warns Babi about the man who has captured her heart.
