The Dwayne Johnson animated film soaring on Netflix

From timeless classics to contemporary masterpieces, animated films can weave enchanting narratives that transcend age. Netflix, a burgeoning hub for animated content and animated films, caters to the tastes of the old and the young, and this week, it is a saga of super pets enthralling audiences. This one stars a long list of big stars, from Dwayne Johnson to Keanu Reeves.

The animated superhero film DC League of Super-Pets has become a streaming sensation, claiming the ninth spot on Netflix’s top ten list of films in the US.

Directed by Jared Stern and co-directed by Sam J. Levine, DC League of Super-Pets boasts an ensemble of notable actors lending their voices to iconic characters. Stern, who pitched the concept back in 2012, was inspired by his experiences while working in an animal shelter. He had noticed that the older animals were less likely to be adopted and imagined how things would be if these animals had superpowers.

Dwayne Johnson takes on the role of Krypto, Superman’s pet dog, leading a supporting cast that includes Kevin Hart, Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, Marc Maron, Thomas Middleditch, Ben Schwartz, and Keanu Reeves.

The film’s plot revolves around Krypto’s quest to rescue Superman and the Justice League, who have been kidnapped by the notorious Lex Luthor. To accomplish this mission, Krypto recruits a group of shelter pets, each with their own unique superpowers. The story unfolds with a mix of heartwarming moments and action-packed sequences.

In a week where Dwayne Johnson’s The Fate of the Furious and Black Adam also secured spots in the top rankings, it’s evident that the actor’s star power extends to animated features as well.

Stern had spoken about how Keanu Reeves, who voiced an exhausted version of the caped crusader Batman in the film, was perfect for the role. He told Screen Rant, “I think he would have been a great live-action Batman, but he’s wonderful as our animated haunted Batman and, most importantly, for our movie. I think he’s a guy who could really use a pet. And he really had fun with it.”
